Medical Assistant - Dermatology

Baltimore, MD

MUST:

Experienced Medical Assistant - Dermatology

2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant - Dermatology

2+ years of medical assisting and medical office experience

Dermatological or surgical experience highly preferred

Demonstrated skill in venipuncture

Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques

Knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions

Skill in implementing policies, procedures, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties

Skill in developing effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members

Skill in identifying possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge

Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures

Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks

Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Medical assistant certification required

DUTIES:

Responsible for assisting physicians and nursing staff with patient care.

Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management.

Performs delegated medical tasks and may perform clerical duties.

Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.

Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.

Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.

Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.

Obtains necessary blood and urine specimens.

Administers and documents injections and other medications given.

Assists provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration.

Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times.

Sterilizes all reusable instruments and equipment as needed.

Maintains necessary supplies in clinical area.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. Provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.

Utilizes appropriately and accurately the electronic system to perform required duties.

Performs other duties as assigned.
