Full Job Description

Summerwood Pediatrics is a well-established, progressive office. We are a primary care practice caring for children from birth to 22 years of age. Our team of board-certified physicians, nationally certified nurse practitioners, and NYS licensed nurses provide cutting-edge health care to patients in a friendly, welcoming environment.

We believe that assisting parents in being well-informed and confident as caregivers for their children, is critical to a child's health and well-being. In 2012 Summerwood Pediatrics became the first local pediatric practice in the Syracuse area to receive Medical Home Level 3 certification. As a certified Medical Home, we strive to provide care that is of the highest quality, delivered in a manner that is both timely and convenient. Using the family-centered model developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, we try to coordinate ALL care, both medical and non-medical for our patients and families.

Duties and Responsibilities  include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Responsible for all clerical duties, including verifying demographic information; collecting copayments and balances due; and utilizing the computer system to notify providers of patient arrival. Distribute appointment-specific forms to be completed and enter or update patient data as needed.

2. Balance payments received for shift worked.

3. Maintains a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor.

4. Greets Patients.

5. Responsible for check-out duties.

6. Send data report to phone tree to confirm upcoming appointments. Also, send a report to remind parents to book future appointments.

7. Answers incoming telephone calls on a multi-line, high–volume telephone system.

8. Schedule appointments.

9. Direct incoming calls to appropriate areas.

10. Distributes faxes thru an electronic system.

11. Scan incoming mail & distribute it electronically to the appropriate provider.

12. Work in coordination on Medical Home Certification.

13. Pick up forms/paperwork from Pods.

14. Maintain the rescheduled appointment list.

15. Turn off the answering service in the morning and call the service at the end of the day with the Provider's on-call coverage.

16. Provide input for staff evaluations and assist in the interview process.

17. Huddles with staff daily.

18. Copy/send out records for transfer/continuity of care.

19. Follows all safety and security procedures and identifies circumstances that put patients, families, staff, or guests at risk of experiencing accidents or injury. Follow through to report and or resolve unsafe conditions. These factors could include, but are not limited to the following:

· Substance abuse

· Behavior disorders

· Side effects of medications

· Physical impairments

· Wet floors, spills, uneven floor coverings, etc

· Faulty equipment

20. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and expectations related to emergency

codes and procedures to implement in the event of a medical emergency, violence, fire, disaster, or severe weather.

21. Uses equipment and materials properly.

22. Responsible for reviewing the patient's ongoing plan of care/self-management to

ensure that all necessary resources are available to and accessible by the clinician providing care at the time of the encounter.

23. Responsible for documenting patient communications in patient's medical records.

24. Performs all other duties as needed and assigned.

25. Work in satellite locations, if needed.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add & subtract.

Reasoning Ability:

Medent experience is a plus

Starting pay is $17.00   based on experience.
