Department Overview

Reach for Resources is a nonprofit agency based out of Minnetonka, Minnesota. We provide recreation, education, case management, advocacy, counseling, and health programs to individuals with disabilities living in the Minneapolis western metro area. Our recreation department contracts with parks and recreation partners to provide adaptive recreation, inclusion and training services to their community members.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as an Outdoor Recreation Inclusion & Program Support Specialist. In this role, you will provide one-on-one paraprofessional assistance to children of all abilities attending outdoor recreation camps. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that every child has a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive experience in the outdoors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Provide one-on-one support to children with varying abilities (intellectual and/or physical) during outdoor recreation activities and camps.

•Assist children with mobility and communication, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the program.

•Participate actively in outdoor activities such as paddling watercraft, biking, hiking, working with animals, and other recreational activities.

•Adapt activities and instructions to accommodate the diverse needs and abilities of participants, promoting an inclusive and supportive environment for all.

•Collaborate with program leaders and fellow staff members to plan and implement engaging and accessible outdoor recreation programs.

•Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude while fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment among participants.

•Assist with program logistics, equipment setup, and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of outdoor recreation activities.

•Travel to and work at multiple Three Rivers Parks locations across the Twin Cities metro area as needed.

•Complete inclusion paperwork.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

•Passion for the outdoors and working with youth, particularly children with disabilities.

•Comfort and proficiency in paddling watercraft, biking, and other outdoor recreational activities.

•Experience working with children with diverse abilities and understanding of inclusive practices.

•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children, families, and colleagues.

•Flexibility and adaptability to work in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating reliability, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

•Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between park locations.

•Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

•High School Diploma or GED

•2 years post high school education

•Group leadership experience

•At least 1 year experience working with individuals with disabilities
