**Job Description**

**About This Role**

Biogen is accelerating gene therapies that may one day help transform the way we treat neurological diseases. The Scientist I / II is a technical leader in the Gene Therapy Department, focused on developing and implementing large-scale viral vector production processes within the Pilot team. You will evaluate and implement new technologies and support the technical transfer of viral vector production processes into Biogens manufacturing facilities. You may also participate in the development of scalable plasmid production processes, as needed, to support Biogens AAV-based Gene Therapy pipeline.

**What Youll Do**

* Lead cell culture operations of a small team in the pilot-scale viral vector production lab to ensure supply of process intermediates to support Gene Therapy development activities

* Work collaboratively within the Gene Therapy pilot team to develop scalable cell culture processes to support Biogens Gene Therapy Programs

* Provide technical expertise on topics pertaining to AAV process development and plasmid production

* Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies to streamline process development activities and advance Biogens AAV and plasmid production processes

* Provide scientific mentoring to their peers and potential direct reports.

* Lead technical projects to ensure milestones and timelines are met

* Engage in internal collaborations with other groups to achieve objectives and implement scientific advancements in the Gene Therapy field

* Present findings and/or results to senior management, external stakeholders, and industry peers at conferences.

**Who You Are**

You have demonstrated skills and experience in effective operational planning and execution. You drive technology innovation, have an ability to lead change and results, and help provide oversight of multiple projects as a subject matter expert.

**Qualifications**

**Scientist I Required Skills:**

* BS in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related science with relevant industrial experience in Biopharmaceutical development with 6+ years experience

* MS in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related science with relevant industrial experience in Biopharmaceutical development with 4+ years experience

* Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related science with relevant industrial experience in Biopharmaceutical development with 0-2 years experience

* Strong knowledge and experience in mammalian cell culture / bacterial fermentation / viral vector production operations (aseptic operations, cell biology, biochemistry, analytical techniques, bioreactor or fermenter operations)

* Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of publications and presentations

**Scientist II Required Skills:**

* BS in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related science with relevant industrial experience in Biopharmaceutical development with 8+ years experience

* MS in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry or other related science with relevant industrial experience in Biopharmaceutical development with 6+ years experience

* Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related science with relevant industrial experience in Biopharmaceutical development with 2+ years experience

* In addition to Scientist I Required Skills

+ Experience in upstream process development

+ Experience managing and developing direct reports

+ Experience managing production lab operations

+ Experience with tech transfer of development processes into manufacturing

**Preferred Skills**

* Experience in upstream process development is desirable

* Experience with production of AAV or other viral vectors is a plus

* Experience with large-scale production of plasmid DNA is a plus
