Occ Summary
The Self-Image
team provides specialty services to patients facing cancer and cancer
survivors coping with the impact of cancer treatment on their lives.
The Self-Image Consultant provides education, support, and
personalized recommendations for products and services for patients
and family members at the Duke University Hospital Cancer Boutique
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. This role is 100% in-person.
Hours:
3-8 hour shifts
24 hours a week. Monday - Friday
There are 3 Cancer boutique locations across the Duke Cancer
Institute to best meet the needs of our patients and families wherever
they are receiving their cancer treatment and to ensure they receive
comprehensive access to self-image services. Our Self-Image Consultant
team specifically works with patients and family members to help adapt
to changes in body-image experiences throughout their cancer journey.
In addition to a selection of wigs and head coverings, we also offer
apparel which includes garments for comfortable port access, Duke
Cancer Institute branded gear and cancer awareness shirts and products
as well as sexual health products. We offer a no-charge section to
gift items to Duke patients currently undergoing cancer treatment to
ensure patients have access to these resources. Our Self-Image
Consultant team provides personalized education and consultations, and
ensures connection to our broader Cancer Support resources such as
Medical Family Therapy, support groups, Child Life resources, etc.
Work Performed
Provide self-image
consultations to patients. Consultations include: - Education about
topics such as hair loss, scalp care, hair care; and skin changes.-
Education about available products and services (such as prosthetics
and orthotics, wigs, skin care products, make-up products, scarves,
hats, clothing, self-image counseling, sexual health and intimacy
services) -Personalized recommendations for self-image products based
on patient preference. - Education/hands-on training for patients: wig
care, haircare, skincare, scalp care, make-up techniques, scarftying,
clothing options, etc. - Support to patients and family members coping
with impact of treatments (radiation therapy; chemotherapy; surgery;
etc.). Education about, and referral to, support services, as needed.
Retail responsibilities, such as opening and closing of store and
register(s); sales transactions. Balancing cash drawer and credit card
transactions, make bank deposits, daily sales documentation and
reporting. Merchandise and in-kind donation inventory intake. Upkeep
of product displays. Site-specific supervision and training of
volunteers. Maintaining clean, safe environment for patients and their
family members.
