Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Trailer Driver/ Environmental Educator will be responsible for leading educational programming and providing operational support for the department. This position engages student’s Pre-K through college along with teachers, parents, and administrators. The Trailer Driver/ Environmental Educator will collaborate on the development of educational curriculum and exhibits to ensure an overall positive and dynamic learning experience that is tailored for guests. In addition, this person will be responsible for operating the new education trailer to various programs, festivals, and other events throughout the state of Georgia. This educator may be required to drive out of the state for overnight programs if necessary. Additionally, this person will participate in standard on and off-site aquarium educator programming with the occasional evening or weekend events including but not limited to Educator Open House, outreach opportunities and professional development events.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide learning experiences that are tailored to the needs of each individual group (schools, camps, and special interest groups).
  2. Assist with the development of education curricula that are hands-on and interdisciplinary (STEAM).
  3. Assist with the development of quality educational
  4. Conduct pre-visit calls with external contacts to confirm details of a school’s
  5. Ensure necessary preparations and follow-up for school group
  6. Answer e-mails and phone inquiries regarding education
  7. Greet school groups upon arrival and facilitate entrance into the
  8. Collaborate with group sales, interpretive programs, security, zoological operations, volunteers, and other internal departments to create an exceptional guest experience.
  9. Provide daily support of all programs, including but not limited to escorting chaperones throughout building, school group organization, supporting special events.
  10. Driving the education trailer to and from event sites, in and out of state during the week and some potential overnights and weekends.
  11. Maintain the safety of the trailer before and during transportation and following proper safety procedures and
  12. Ensuring outreach animal safety during trailer transportation and
  13. Provide the highest standard of customer service to
  14. Adhere to all GAI
  15. Perform other duties as workload
Qualifications:
  1. Associate’ degree or higher in a science or education related field
  2. Familiarity with driving a vehicle with a larger trailer or other large vehicles over 35ft in
  3. A valid state driver’s license
  4. Possessing a clean driving record with less than 3 points on your record
  5. Two or more years of experience in an educational institution
  6. Previous experience and a passion for working with children and animals a
  7. Current knowledge of wildlife conservation, scientific research and environmental issues
  8. Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with and interpret exhibits to internal and external clients
  9. Ability to organize, manage time and set priorities while meeting deadlines and transportation
  10. Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental
  11. Superior verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills are
  12. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
