The Transportation Manager serves as a key role in the development of logistics strategy, optimizing transportation networks and driving improved service levels to our stores and customers. This role will be responsible for developing new measures for performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, leading cost savings initiatives and RFP events across various transportation & delivery categories, including but not limited to: truckload, less than truckload, parcel, ocean freight, drayage, and parcel.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

* Lead strategic planning, opportunity assessment, and implementation of new capabilities for a rapidly evolving logistics network including first mile, middle mile, and final mile

* Oversees the cost of transportation; evaluating cost per truckload, cube per truckload, and cost per mile in support of overall financial goals; ensuring transportation assets are fully utilized to reduce freight costs whenever possible

* Responsible for 3PL/carrier relationships supporting strategic alliances to scale operations while optimizing cost

* Design models using advanced data analytics to evaluate logistics performance and advance speed in decision making

* Lead negotiations for transportation and 3PL services delivering value at the service levels required by Discount Tire

* Motivate people to give their best efforts by goal setting, coaching and communicating performance expectations, offering recognition and holding people accountable for results.

* Develop financial and operations metrics and reporting

* Anticipate challenges and disruptions to transportation flow and design mitigation strategies

* Determine the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, pre-paid to collect conversion, shipping modes, product volumes or lane mixes, or carriers

* Drive site specific requirements at cross docks, warehouses, and ports to support the most efficient logistics operations possible

* Build and manage benchmarking metrics for Discount Tires practices both internally and externally against best-in-class operations

* Audit invoices of carriers on regular basis; review general ledger for all charges dealing with transportation.

**Job Requirements**

**Qualifications:**

* This position requires a minimum of 2 years as a Supervisor or Asst Manager

* 7 years relevant experience with automotive or retail supply chain, logistics, and transportation, preferably in a high-volume environment

* 5+ years negotiating multi-million dollar agreements (direct carrier and 3PL sourced)

* 5+ years direct leadership or supervisory experience is a plus

* Strong knowledge of multi-modal logistics pricing models (truck, ocean, drayage, parcel)

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with success in working across organizations at all levels

* Exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with persistence and determination

* Demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to solve complex problems and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment

* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time with ability to meet project timelines

* Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills (Six-Sigma, LEAN)

* Strong data analytical skills leveraging (Excel, Access, SQL)

* Experience with TMS and WMS software applications

* Experience in process implementation and required internal controls

**Educational Requirements:**

* Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related equivalent experience is required.

* LEAN or Six Sigma Certifications a plus

**Work Days:**

Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.

**Work Hours:**

Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be necessary. Local Travel is required
