Full Job Description

To provide coordination for the hospital-wide Skin/Wound and Ostomy Program including but not limited to:

  • Serves as a resource/consultant for all departments regarding skin/wound and ostomy management issues to promote hospital wide quality skin/wound and ostomy management.
  • Conducts/ participate in research focused on skin/wound and ostomy management across varied patient populations.
  • Collects, compiles and interprets data on hospital skin/wound and ostomy care audits and prepares reports for committees.
  • Develops, coordinates, delivers and /or evaluates skin/wound and ostomy educational activities for hospital staff, patients and family members.
  • Leads outcome-based approach to patient care by insuring evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary care delivery.

Minimum Education:
• Graduate of a state approved School of Registered Nursing.
• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. Master degree preferred.

Minimum Experience/Knowledge:
• 3 years acute care nursing experience preferred.
• A minimum of 2 years formal or informal experience in an educator role.
• Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
• Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word as well as Internet and access and utilization.
• Ability to participate in and utilize research for improvement of patient-care practices.

Required License/Certification:
• Valid California Registered Nurse License.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support training.
• Advance Cardiac Life Support training preferred.
• CWOCN, preferred. If no certificate upon hire, one must obtain within 12 months of hire, and maintain renewal.
• Los Angeles City Fire and Safety Training. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintain renewal before expiration date.
