Train services to the UK’s busiest airport will be among the most affected by the ongoing strike by Aslef members.

The strikes, part of a prolonged pay dispute lasting over 18 months, involve a series of walkouts and a ban on overtime.

On Wednesday, December 6, commuters from southern England into London and Heathrow Airport faced disruptions.

It followed previous strikes during the weekend and on Tuesday in different regions.

Train drivers on CrossCountry, Great Western Railway, and Heathrow Express will strike today (Thursday, December 7).

CrossCountry, the most extensive rail network in the UK, will completely halt its services.

It would impact travel from Aberdeen to Penzance and Stansted to Cardiff.

Great Western Railway will operate a limited schedule, running services between 7 am and 7 pm.

Meanwhile, Heathrow Express will reduce its frequency from four trains per hour to two, with service restricted between 7am and 7.15pm.

The strikes would continue on Friday, December 8, affecting Northern Rail and TransPennine Express, leading to the cancellation of all their services.

As the week-long ban on overtime enforced by Aslef members concludes this weekend, the disruptions persist amid a lack of resolution.

No talks have occurred in months, and the union criticises the government’s role in the dispute.

Aslef cited a lack of meetings with the Transport Secretary for an entire year.
