Shell has expressed concern over a strike by employees at Brazil’s environmental agency, Ibama.
On Thursday, June 20, Cristiano Pinto da Costa, head of Shell’s local unit, said it impacts licensing procedures.
While Shell has not been directly affected yet, it is worried about future licenses for the Mero oilfield, a joint venture with Petrobras.
Since January, Ibama has been delaying license issuances due to a dispute with the government over wages and work conditions.
Last week, workers at the agency went on strike, approved in at least 14 states.Â
According to the oil lobby group IBP, the strike has reduced Brazil’s oil output by about 80,000 barrels per day.
