Licensed Wholesale Company (LWC), the UK’s largest independent drinks wholesaler, has created almost 300 jobs after more than doubling its sales in the 12 months leading up to September 30, 2022.
The Manchester-based company increased its headcount to 1,171 during the period, while its turnover surged from £248.9m to £519.8m, with pre-tax profits climbing from £12.3m to £28.3m.
Founded over 40 years ago by Robin Gray and Ebrahim Mukadam, who continue to lead the company, LWC’s clients include Manchester United, Manchester City, Molson Coors and Heineken, as well as a range of hotels, restaurants and festivals.

While the company was initially based in an old mill in Greater Manchester, it now operates from a support centre in the city.
It also operates a 173,000 sq ft base in Chadderton and has 14 depots located throughout the UK.
A statement said: “Since the ending of national lockdowns, the business has recovered strongly and we have been delighted with the performance of the business, allowing return to a robust trading position this year.

“We have dealt with the challenges brought on by the recovery of the economy in a post-Covid and post-Brexit environment.
“Our business remains robust to meet any new challenges, whether from specific industry issues or other market-led changes.
“The business will continue to focus heavily on managing its margins and cost base, particularly in light of increased risks and inflationary pressures across the industry.”
