Poundland To Cut 60 Head Office Roles

Poundland is restructuring its head office in Walsall as part of a broader effort to reduce costs across its operations. The discount retailer reportedly places around 60 positions under consultation across various departments, including supply chain, finance, IT, and property teams.

Current Status And Company Statement

The company is still in discussions with some of the affected employees.

A Poundland spokesperson said:

“Providing the amazing value we promise our customers, depends on us delivering a business that is simple and efficient so our costs are as low as possible.

“As part of a recent review, we took action last month to make sure we continued to deliver for customers, removing some central roles where we saw an opportunity to work smarter and more efficiently.

“It goes without saying we’re doing all we can to look after colleagues impacted.”

Financial Performance

This move follows the Pepco Group, Poundland’s parent company, reporting disappointing third-quarter sales. The group faced difficulties transitioning to new general merchandise ranges, resulting in a 6.9 percent decline in like-for-like sales, which dropped to £404 million. The company attributed the decline to challenges with new Pepco-sourced clothing and merchandise, which are currently being addressed.
