After reports that the prime minister was considering demoting him, Rishi Sunak's allies insisted that he focused on economic health when he became prime minister.
According to the Sunday Times, an angry Boris Johnson proposed the move after a letter asking for travel restrictions for jobs to be relaxed before the announcement of the travel restrictions on Wednesday was leaked.
A senior source told the newspaper: “He said: "I’ve been thinking about it. Maybe it’s time we looked at Rishi as the next secretary of state for health jobs. He could potentially do an excellent job there." He added. “In an open meeting, after ranting about Rishi, he then suggested the Chancellor could be demoted in the next reshuffle.”
According to reports, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson threatened to demote Rich Sunak. The newspaper reported that Johnson was not expected to carry out his threats and pointed to the Prime Minister’s reputation for making impromptu comments "half in jest."
A Treasury source said: “The Chancellor is entirely focused on securing the country’s economic recovery and continuing to protect and create jobs.” The comments allegedly leaked at a meeting on Monday were of no avail to the relationship between the 10th and the 11th.
