Aldi invests £550 million to create 1,500 jobs

The new Aldi supermarket in Ramsgate, UK.

Aldi has revealed plans to spend over £550 million on its UK operations this year, generating 1,500 jobs nationwide.

The supermarket chain focuses on expanding and enhancing its stores and distribution network

This investment will open new supermarkets and renovate existing outlets and logistic centres.

The firm would create job opportunities at its existing locations, corporate offices, and distribution hubs.

This financial injection is part of a larger £1.4 billion expenditure planned over the next two years to fortify Aldi's presence in the UK.

Aldi UK and Ireland Giles Hurley said: “We’re continuing to welcome more and more new customers through our doors – with people coming for our low prices but staying for our award-winning quality and British sourcing.

“However, there are still areas of the country that don’t have an Aldi, or that need more or larger stores to meet demand. That is what our 2024 expansion plans aim to address.

“We now have more than 1,000 stores across the UK but there are plenty more Aldi stores still to come, in 2024 and beyond.”

Aldi's aggressive growth strategy in the UK aims to address gaps in its market coverage and cater to increasing consumer demand.

It reinforces its position in a competitive market that recently saw it capture a 9.3 percent market share.

In December, the grocer established a national real estate team to facilitate its ambitious goal of launching 500 new stores in the UK.
