Currys is launching a seasonal recruitment drive, offering over 1,100 positions for the upcoming peak trading season.

It’ll span from the run-up to Black Friday through the January sales period.

The recruitment effort encompasses 720 temporary roles distributed across the retailer's 285 UK and 16 Republic of Ireland stores.

Openings are predominantly in sales and support capacities.

The retailer will welcome applications from internal and external candidates to engage directly with customers on the shop floor.

In addition to the temporary roles, Currys is expanding its team with 370 permanent store positions throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Successful candidates will commence with an equivalent hourly wage as temporary staff.

It translates to an average hourly pay of £11.39 when factoring in the average store colleague's bonus.

Furthermore, permanent employees who complete a six-month onboarding and skills development program and demonstrate strong performance will witness their minimum hourly rate rise to £10.80 per hour (£11.80 in London).

Currys said it is “committed to investing in the future skills of its store colleagues, with a ground-breaking learning program” ensuring new store staff can build confidence and competence through various skills.

The retailer recently reported a 4 percent decline in group like-for-like sales for the 17 weeks ending on August 26, with UK and Ireland sales down 2 percent.

However, it remains confident in its profit outlook for the year.
