Next has appointed Stephen Owen, formerly the director of strategic partnerships at Asos, as its new international director.

Owen has extensive experience in the retail industry, having held senior positions at Topshop, River Island, and Primark.

Next recently maintained its profit guidance for the year, despite its sales being slightly better than expected.

Although full-price sales fell by 0.7 percent in the 13 weeks to 29 April, this was still an improvement on the -2 percent forecasted.

The retailer has decided to maintain its overall sales expectations for the half and full year, despite the better-than-expected first-quarter performance.

However, to meet its first-half guidance, Next has adjusted its second-quarter sales forecast, which is now expected to be down 5 percent on last year, rather than the previously feared 4 percent.
