Tyson Foods recalls 30,000 lbs of chicken nuggets after metal fragments found

Food processor Tyson Foods has recalled around 30,000lb (13,608kg) of chicken nuggets due to the discovery of metal fragments.

The company emphasized that this voluntary recall is a precautionary measure.

These chicken nuggets were manufactured at a single facility and distributed to nine US states, including Alabama, California, and Illinois.

The US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has noted a single report of a minor oral injury related to the product so far.

The FSIS advises anyone with health concerns stemming from the product to seek medical attention.

The affected are the dinosaur-shaped”Fun Nuggets”, which have a “use by” date of 4 September 2024.

Tyson’s statement highlighted a few consumers reported finding malleable metal pieces in the nuggets, prompting the recall.

The company further advised customers who purchased the product to dispose of it and get in touch with the company.

This isn’t Tyson’s first recall.

The leading US meat producer by sales had similar issues in the past.

Last year, it recalled ground beef due to the presence of a reflective material.

In 2019, there were recalls for chicken nuggets containing blue rubber and chicken strips potentially contaminated with metal.

In 2022, a decline in demand led Tyson to close several chicken processing plants in the US.

However, with beef and pork prices soaring, many consumers have turned to the more affordable chicken, potentially signaling a profit surge for poultry businesses.

Tyson is set to announce its latest quarterly results on 13 November.
