Job Description
+ Review welding procedures in accordance with OneSubsea WS (welding specification), welding design basis, functional design specifications, customer specifications and industry codes and standards.
+ Able to run large 200M + projects with complex technical requirements world wide with our most demanding customers
+ Able to prepare welding specifications, write & qualify welding procedures in accordance with industrial codes / standards, regulatory guidelines and Customer requirements
+ Have in depth of knowledge and the ability to interface with QA, product engineering and manufacturing to solve welding problems and ensure compliance with rigorous industry and customer specific welding requirements
+ Have the ability to establish high level contacts and coordinate with personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients and exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters
+ Assist product engineers with the design of weldments. This includes providing guidance in the areas of joint design, non-destructing testing and selection of appropriate welding specifications
+ Assist product engineers in the disposition of discrepant parts that require weld repair and disposition of nonconformances
+ Participate in design reviews to make sure designs are optimized for welding and that customer requirements are being reflected in bills of material by the assignment of proper WS
+ Understand the project welding engineering document life cycle and able to work in MS Excel, Word and Access
+ Education - BE / BS in Welding Engineering / Metallurgy / Mechanical / Production with at least 15 years of industrial experience in oil & gas / related manufacturing industries as welding engineer or similar positions
+ Extensive experience working on shop floor / field environment is required
+ Extensive experience with large oil companies is required
+ Must have very thorough knowledge of NDE processes (LP, VT, MT, UT, RT, PAUT) and past qualifications preferred
+ Code Experience - Requires in depth knowledge of ASME Section IX, API 6A and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. Requires working knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME B31.8, API 16A, API 16C, and API 16F
+ Must have expertise in welding procedures, procedure qualification & welder qualification; in depth knowledge in SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW & SAW is required
+ Welding Inspector certification CWSIP / AWS CWI is preferred

Overview
System One is seeking a Senior Welding Engineer for a yearlong contract role to work as part of a high-functioning team of engineers focused on materials processing, supply chain development and supplier qualification for next generation material and components for sodium-cooled fast reactors. Must be local to the Bellevue, WA area. You will be responsible for developing the welding processes as well as developing the test programs necessary for generating necessary design information.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and qualify welding techniques for nuclear reactor core internals for a sodium-cooled fast reactor
+ Conduct welding process development and qualification for ferritic-martensitic steels and austenitic stainless steels using multiple technologies (e.g., resistance pressure welding, TIG, laser)
+ Generate welding process specifications and procedures, and review engineering documentation to ensure appropriate callouts
+ Lead technical development of suppliers to increase technology readiness levels of key materials and components for the core of the reactor
+ Oversee weld equipment operations to generate test coupons supporting process qualification and test programs to develop performance models
+ Develop destructive and nondestructive inspection criteria for weld certification
+ Use fundamental materials engineering principles to develop basic models of material performance and validate them using laboratory testing
+ Develop test requirements, plans, specifications, and procedures for testing
+ Oversee test programs for qualification of welds, including mechanical properties, burst testing, thermal creep, creep-fatigue, neutron irradiation, thermal aging, and sodium exposure
+ Perform scientific analysis on test data and generate technical reports documenting new knowledge related to reactor design and qualification
+ Interface with project teams to ensure materials development and testing efforts meet programmatic objectives across client initiatives
+ Assist with supplier audits per ASME NQA-1-2015
Requirements
+ Minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years of experience with a Master's degree
+ Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (BA required)
+ Solid understanding of metallurgy, including fabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous (e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels) and nonferrous (e.g., nickel-base) alloys
+ Demonstrated skills in developing requirements specifications and defining supplier technical work scope, including development of SOWs and RFPs, and providing technical direction and oversight of supplier projects
+ Experience working in stringent quality systems (e.g., NQA-1, ISO-9001, AS9100) preferred
+ General understanding of nuclear reactor design and subsequent impacts on materials considered a plus
+ Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
+ High degree of trust and integrity, ability to communicate openly, and desire to foster teamwork
+ Local to the Bellevue, WA area

The primary focus of this position is manufacturing large aluminum aerospace structures using fusion welding and friction stir welding processes. This is a welding engineering position. Education and experience relevant to this position will be evaluated from that perspective. The position's primary responsibilities are to: Develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles. Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new welding processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses. Prepare technical reports resulting from research and development. Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-weld heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods and welding of critical joints. Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes. Direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards. Exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters. Perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials. Serve as project lead engineer to manage specific assigned customer welding development and manufacturing development projects. Help other EM32 W&M Team customers understand and resolve problems related to their welding manufacturing processes. The selected candidate will serve as a communication or focal point for welding and welding manufacturing projects and work integrally with JSEG and customer engineers and engineering technicians particular engineering discipline effort or scientific initiative. Provides professional, consultation, technical and engineering skill services (including innovative approaches where appropriate) to resolve unprecedented/complex problems pertaining to design, development, analysis, integration, evaluation, testing, and verification of systems, subsystems, and components. Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers/scientists and officials of other organizations and companies, requiring skill in deliberating, advising, advocating, and negotiating resolution of critical issues. **Qualifications:** + Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Master's degree with at least 13 years of experience, or BS with at least 15 years of experience. The candidate is required to have: + Previous exposure to manufacturing large, welded aluminum aerospace structures. + Previous exposure to developing inputs into paperless (electronic) manufacturing execution systems (MES) or helping perform work under MES. + Previous exposure to identifying and documenting manufacturing nonconformances. + Previous exposure to resolving manufacturing nonconformances under oversight boards. + The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain permission to operate customer-owned vehicles in support of work activities. The Weld Engineer will provide technical resources todevelop, maintain, and implement weld processes to support the Theodore, Alabama facility. The Weld Engineer will work close with design engineering, quality, drafting, and production management/staff to resolve production issues.

+ Assign and control WPS/PQR/WPQR on aluminum, stainless and carbon steel alloys,filler metals/fluxes and shielding gases in compliance with ASME IX, EN 15614-1,2 and AWS D1.1 using GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW and SMAW processes.
+ Control and maintainWPQ's, and continuity/prolongation logs as required for GTAW-AC/DC, GMAW semi-automatic, GMAW machine, FCAW, SAW and SMAW in compliance with ASME IX, EN 9606-1,2 and AWS D1.1.
+ Identify and resolve production problems, related to design engineering, quality control, drafting, sales and production supervision.
+ Provideongoing needs for testing, training, process implementation or other shop floor activities.
+ Specify, provide justification, and generate AFE for purchase of new or replacement weld, cutting or fabrication equipment as required for process improvement of increased capacity. Issue purchase orders as required for normal or other production requirements
+ Provide reports of ongoing shop floor activities, training, perceived areas needing special attention or other areas related to quality, production or other deficiencies as well as reports to identify projects which have been successfully implemented.

Determines ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications.
