Starbucks recruitment drive

whatnews

Starbucks is recruiting baristas and supervisors right across the North-East. There are 400 roles available nationally as the coffee reopens stores as lockdown lifts across the UK and a busy summer period is expected. Both barista and supervisor roles are available across Tyne and Wear and County Durham, including Eldon Square, Northumberland Street, the Metrocentre, Durham Framwelgate, Dalton Park, Sunderland and more.

In fact there are almost 200 sites where recruitment is necessary. These vary from city-centre, suburban high street and drive-thru locations all in anticipation of upcoming increase in demand

Starbucks employs 3,664 staff across the UK. It said it did not make any redundancies or take any government furlough support during the pandemic. Rather that its new hiring plan is to fill “natural vacancies” from staff choosing to leave the business and were not replaced during lockdown.

The chain has expanded its drive-thru and delivery options to ensure business was kept running while dine-in options were restricted by the lockdown policy.

It said that around 98 per cent of its estate is currently operational.

Alex Rayner, general manager at Starbucks UK, said: “It has been incredibly difficult to be a high-street retailer in the last year as the Covid-19 pandemic has placed operating restrictions on our business which have impacted our profitability dramatically.

“But our priority the entire time has been to keep our people employed, avoid making redundancies in our company-operated stores and be prepared to safely re-open as restrictions ease.

“That’s why I’m really pleased we are now in a position to rebuild our workforce by offering 400 jobs, as we are optimistic about the future of the business.”
