Majestic Wine has granted employees additional time off over Christmas and New Year as a gesture of thanks for their “incredible efforts” in 2023.

The retailer will close all 208 of its stores in England, Scotland, and Wales for an extra day on January 2, 2024.

It is the second time in three years for such a closure.

This extended break also applies to employees at Majestic’s Watford support centre, Hemel Hempstead distribution centre, and those in field-based roles.

It ensures that all 1,600 Majestic workers can enjoy the extra holiday.

In addition to the January 2 closure, Majestic Wine will remain closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

John Colley, the CEO of Majestic Wine, said: “As a business, we know how important it is to spend quality time with family and friends, especially during the festive season.

“Rewarding our colleagues with these days off is the right thing to do to allow everyone to make the most of the Christmas break, and come back to work fully refreshed in the New Year.”

This move aligns with Majestic’s ongoing commitment to the health, well-being, and development of its workforce.

In preparation for its “biggest Christmas ever,” the retailer had announced plans in September to hire 200 new workers for various roles.

It included drivers, sales assistants, assistant managers, and trainee managers.
