South Korean authorities are investigating Samsung after two workers at one of its semiconductor plants were exposed to radiation.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission reported that the two affected workers, who are currently hospitalized, displayed “abnormal” symptoms of radiation exposure on their fingers.

Despite this, their general blood tests returned normal results.

Samsung said the exposure occurred at its Giheung semiconductor production facility, about 25 miles south of Seoul.

The company said the workers “experienced accidental exposures to X-rays on their hands.”

Samsung added: “The individuals are currently undergoing follow-up tests in the hospital, and Samsung is fully supporting their treatment and recovery.

“The company will cooperate with all relevant authorities and ensure recurrences are prevented.”

The commission has suspended the use of the equipment involved in the exposure while the investigation continues.

The exact cause of the radiation leak remains unknown, but the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission’s probe is ongoing.

Authorities have indicated that they will take further action if any safety regulations are found to have been violated.
