Boohoo puts 400 jobs on the line with Daventry warehouse closure

Boohoo plans to close its Daventry warehouse to streamline its distribution network, putting nearly 400 jobs at risk.

The fast fashion retailer opened the Northamptonshire distribution centre in 2021.

It was after acquiring Debenhams and Arcadia Group brands Burton, Dorothy Perkins, and Wallis.

The Daventry warehouse is in the same location as the former Arcadia warehouse, and 330 employees were transferred to Boohoo after the collapse of the fashion group.

Boohoo initiated a consultation late last year and reportedly arranged a careers fair for the affected 400 employees before the warehouse closure

This development follows Boohoo’s recent announcement about closing its Wellingborough distribution centre, which put 420 roles in jeopardy.

The Wellingborough warehouse, established in April of the previous year, serviced various Boohoo brands.

It includes Boohoo, BoohooMan, MissPap, Karen Millen, Coast, Dorothy Perkins, Oasis, Burton, Wallis, and Debenhams.

Boohoo’s decision to close the Daventry facility aligns with its strategic moves.

The closures follow the opening of its US distribution centre in Pennsylvania last year and a £150m investment in its Sheffield warehouse, which is now fully automated.

A spokesperson for Boohoo Group said: “For the past three years, our Daventry distribution centre has played an important role in Boohoo Group’s UK operation. We would like to thank colleagues for their hard work during this time.

“As our business and customer needs evolve, the group has taken the difficult but necessary decision to close our Daventry operation and divert investment to other UK sites, in order to better serve our customers around the world.

“We are working closely with all affected colleagues to ensure they are fully supported throughout this time.”
