John Lewis Partnership plans to hire over 300 care-experienced young people by January 2025 as part of its Building Happier Futures program.

This initiative aims to provide career opportunities for those with care system experience.

So far, John Lewis has employed 76 workers under this scheme.

The announcement aligns with Foster Care Fortnight, celebrated until 26 May by The Fostering Network charity.

Waitrose chefs conducted a cooking masterclass for foster families at the Kings Cross cookery school to support the event.

This class was designed to offer a bonding experience and teach essential culinary skills to young adults.

John Lewis Partnership chair Sharon White said: “We are passionate about improving the lives of young care-experienced people.

“That’s why we are running dedicated employability schemes, offering young people opportunities that, through no fault of their own, have been out of reach until now.

“This new ambition, as part of our Building Happier Futures program, signals our commitment to help care-experienced people gain skills and experience that sets them up in their careers.”

The Building Happier Futures program is part of the newly established John Lewis Partnership Foundation.

This has raised over £2 million from customers, suppliers, and staff.

In October, John Lewis launched a new lifestyle brand, Made With Care.

All the products are made by designers and creators who grew up in the care system.
