The Original Factory Shop will buy former M&Co stores to create 160 new jobs

The Original Factory Shop

Budget retailer The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) has announced plans to acquire former M&Co stores.

The move would generate around 160 job opportunities.

Over the next three months, the company would launch 16 new stores to strengthen its presence within UK high streets.

The job openings are for store assistants, managers, and supervisors.

TOFS said the move would “assert its position as the UK’s leading community and value, brand-led retailer”, amid the challenging retail landscape.

The expansion will see several of its new stores in major towns and high streets.

M&Co announced its closure in February, with the loss of 2,000 jobs.

TOFS managing director Phil Brigg said: “Our investment in new store openings is about making sure we have the right stores in the right place.

“We’re identifying catchments where The Original Factory Shop is not represented and that includes a focus on high streets in major towns.

“Our growth is testament to the importance of multi-department stores and the roles they play in helping local communities.

“These openings will help provide more job opportunities at a time when they are most needed.”

M&Co announced its closure in February, with the loss of 2,000 jobs.

The store chain operates 185 outlets in smaller towns across the country.
