“We are starting in these communities and will gradually expand deliveries to more customers over time.”

Amazon has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration and local officials in both Lockeford and College Station to launch it.

The company said once an order has been placed, the customer will get the package delivered by a drone which will descend only enough to drop off the package.

Amazon officials stated that the objective is to deliver packages weighing less than 5 pounds within an hour.

Last month, the firm unveiled plans for a new fleet of drones that would begin delivering items in 2024.

Customers will be notified when drone delivery is available in their region.

To begin the program, Amazon obtained FAA safety approval to operate near Lockeford, roughly 50 miles south of Sacramento, and College Station.

It is home to the main campus of Texas A&M University, which is located near Houston.
