Elon Musk's AI firm, xAI, will make the Grok chatbot accessible to all premium members of the social media platform X.
This move, detailed by Musk in a recent X post, aims to provide premium subscribers with the innovative technology by the end of the week.
Grok, positioned as a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT, had initially been exclusive to the top-tier subscribers of X.
These subscribers enjoy an ad-free experience in select sections of X, although ads persist in other areas, including post replies and the Explore tab.
X remains accessible to non-paying users through a free tier offering basic posting capabilities.
As of this year, X reports an average of 250 million daily active users and 550 million monthly users.
Detailed statistics on the distribution of users across its subscription levels have not been disclosed.
However, estimates by Statista suggest around 640,000 users were premium subscribers as of last April when X offered a singular paid subscription model.
Introduced in early November of the previous year, Grok quickly became xAI's flagship offering, promptly integrated with X amid a surge in global interest for AI chatbots.
Musk has capitalized on shared resources, technology, and data between xAI and X, leveraging their joint financial support to propel xAI's initiatives forward.
This strategy aims to enhance X's service offerings and envisions transforming the platform into a versatile "everything app," leveraging AI's potential to revitalize and expand X's digital ecosystem.
