Walmart announced its InHome grocery delivery service is now offered as an optional add-on to its Walmart+ subscription.

It is the retailer's low-cost substitute to Amazon Prime, offering free delivery with no minimum purchase required.

The firm points out that the two formerly separate memberships are being consolidated into one to provide users with a more simplified experience.

Whitney Pegden, the vice president and general manager of InHome said: “We know how much InHome members love this service — they see the same familiar faces and build real relationships with our associates, who help them get through their busy weeks.”

“InHome has one of the highest customer experience ratings in the business, and now we’ve made it even easier to access in even more locations as we grow to reach over 30 million households by the end of the year.”

The Walmart+ membership costs $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Customers may now upgrade to InHome delivery for an additional $7 per month or $40 per year.

That works out to $138 a year for both, which is $10 less than the prior annual price when Walmart+ and InHome were distinct memberships.

The grocery delivery service, which debuted in the autumn of 2019, enables people to place orders online, then have their groceries delivered directly to their refrigerator by having a Walmart employee enter their house through a smart lock.

Customers who work outside the home throughout the day or who travel and want their food put away while they're gone would benefit from the service.

InHome solves a common consumer concern about online grocery delivery that you have to be at home (or at least on your way home) to put your cold and frozen foods away when the order is delivered.

In addition, Walmart is introducing the delivery of groceries in a number of additional areas today, including Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Dallas,  Austin, San Jose, and San Francisco.

The retail giant announced its growth earlier this year when it opened locations in Northwest Arkansas, Atlanta, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.

Walmart has stated efforts to employ more than 3,000 delivery drivers this year as part of the expansion.

It also said that it will develop a fleet of 100 percent all-electric delivery vehicles to do the deliveries, while also marketing the service in the communities affected.

Earlier last year, the organization unveiled an EV collaboration with BrightDrop on this project.

The firm notes its e-commerce sales have increased by 38% in the previous two years, and it intends to continue investing in the delivery arena to provide clients with a seamless and flexible experience.

To satisfy rising demand, The company is increasing delivery slot capacity by 35% this year and expanding into new countries.
