The Binding Site VT specializes in the production of polyclonal antibodies, primarily in sheep, and is a subsidiary of a larger diagnostic company based in England. We currently have a full-time, 40-hour position available for an Animal Husbandry Technician on our USDA registered sheep farm and laboratory in Benson, VT.
**Discover Impactful Work:**
This full time role will participate in and carry out all aspects of animal husbandry and welfare across both sites. They will be required to work both independently and as a team to meet the demands of animal welfare/husbandry across two farms and will ensure that the welfare is maintained to a high standard at all times. They'll need to follow treatment policies and ensure they are up to date with current standard process. All of their work is carried out in accordance with USDA, IACUC protocol, animal welfare act, health and safety, and animal welfare procedures and guidelines, as well as company policies and standards.
**A Day in the Life:**
+ Carry out daily feeding regimes of all animals on the farm
+ Routine and non-routine animal treatments
+ Participate in animal sorting or movement
+ Participate in herding and transfer of animals between farm sites
+ Participate in the breeding/lambing program
+ Assist in keeping all housing buildings to USDA standards
+ Work in conjunction with the Attending Veterinarian, where required

  • Being a Licensed Veterinary Technician is a plus but not necessary.


Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is required to communicate effectively by talking, listening, reading, and writing in a professional manner.
  • At all times, be sober and clear of influence of any substances including alcohol and legal recreational drugs, which may affect the ability of user, safety of animals and other staff members, and work quality in any manner.
  • Ability to maneuver 50 pounds regularly.

**Job Summary**

The following are responsibilities related to the Project Manager 1:

+ Participates in interviewing applicants for open positions, developing performance improvement plans, and writing employee performance evaluations.
+ Assists in assessing training needs, as well as, developing and presenting training for staff and investigators
+ Oversees the animal surveillance program related to the husbandry staff.
+ Occasionally provides technical support (e.g. restraining animals, weaning, etc.).
+ Provides animal husbandry and environmental enrichment for colony animals.
+ Provides quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, monitoring of the effectiveness of facility sanitation, autoclaving procedures, monitoring of incoming animal shipments for container integrity and animal health, monitor the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), internal facility reports for monitoring deviations from pre-established parameters, other quality assurance services as deemed necessary (e.g., water cultures) by the Project Officer.
+ Provides data entry/data base report generation for computerized systems which monitor facility internal environmental parameters, security, or other animal facility monitoring and management requirements.
+ Assist training department and supervisors in the development of course content and materials for training and continuing education of the animal care staff to achieve AALAS certification. The following are minimum qualifications related to the Project Manager 1 position:
+ Education: AA/AS degree in Animal Science or related field required plus four years lab animal experience. Or BA/BS degree or higher in Animal Science or related field and 3 years same experience.
+ Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience of supervisory experience in a multiple labor category rodent facility.
+ Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG).
The pay range for this position $38.50 to $42.25 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

**Full Time - Hourly**
**At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package. The base hiring pay for this role is $19.75 per hour.**

**Purpose of Position** :
General labor to assist Farm Manager and Farm Assistant Manager in achieving required work goals. This includes, but is not limited to, daily chores, running machinery and equipment, and handle and care for live turkeys. This position will require light paperwork, some math skills, walking on uneven surfaces frequently, lifting, twist, bending and squatting frequently and varying temperature environments.
**Principle Accountabilities** :
+ Help perform daily chores as assigned by farm management.
+ Assist with maintaining litter for optimal conditions for turkeys.
+ Record daily information in flock books for record keeping.
+ Operate machinery and equipment when required.
+ Follow all safety protocols and guidelines - wearing all required PPE ( safety glasses, respiratory equipment, etc).
+ Follow all Live Production processes and procedures.
+ Follow all biosecurity guidelines, including, but not limited to, showering before work each day, not wearing personal shoes on farm, using company provided boots on farm and in barns, wearing provided scrubs/coveralls in barns.
+ Perform other duties as instructed and assigned by management.
+ Handle and care for live turkeys in accordance with established animal welfare guidelines.
+ Have open communication with fellow employees and farm management.
+ Conduct self in a positive, team oriented manner.
**Minimum Qualification:**
+ Must have reliable means of transportation to and from assigned farm.
+ Good previous attendance records (school and/or previous employment).
+ Able to work 7 days/week with some varied hours and with some weekends and holidays.
+ Possess a level of math, reading, and writing skills necessary to successfully perform record keeping task required of the position.
+ Able to lift up to 35 lbs from floor to waist height frequently, with occasional lifts from floor to full extension.
+ Able to wear eye and respiratory protection equipment on a continuous basis.
+ Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
**Preferred qualifications:**
+ Valid drivers license.
+ High school diploma, or actively enrolled in high school, or equivalent.
