Elon Musk bans remote working and warns of “difficult times ahead” at Twitter

Elon Musk has revoked remote work for his new Twitter employees and stressed they need to do 40 hours of work from the office a week.
In his first missive, the new Twitter boss has warned staffers to brace themselves for “difficult times ahead.”
The new requirements are expected to take effect immediately.

Musk said there is "no way to sugarcoat the message" about the economic picture and how it would impact a firm that relies on advertising like Twitter.
Twitter has been under Musk's direction for about two weeks, during which time he has fired roughly half of its staff and the bulk of its executive team.
The billionaire has bumped up the price of the Twitter Blue subscription to $8 and added user verification.

In the email, he said that he wants subscriptions to account for 50 percent of Twitter's revenue.
Before his arrival, Twitter had implemented a permanent work-from-anywhere policy for its workforce, due to the Covid pandemic.

It was among the first topics discussed during Musk's all-hands call with Twitter employees after declaring the plan to purchase the firm earlier this year.
He previously that he was opposed to remote work and would only make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
He has also removed "days of rest" from Twitter staff calendars.

It was established during the pandemic period as a monthly, companywide day off.
Its expiry highlighted Musk's disagreement with Twitter's current work culture.
Musk said: “The road ahead is arduous and will require intense work to succeed.”
In a separate email, he noted that “over the next few days, the absolute top priority is finding and suspending any verified bots/trolls/spam.”
