Ex-Asda boss Andy Clark rescues online butcher Farmison from administration

A former Asda executive has led the rescue of online butcher Farmison with customers including Fortnum & Mason and Harrods.

Andy Clarke left the supermarket behemoth in 2016 and is now said to have agreed to buy Farmison & Co, which went into insolvency earlier this month.

Mr. Clarke is said to have bought Farmison with the help of Gareth Whittle, co-founder of branding agency Chilli Marketings.

The value of the transaction was unknown.

Farmison is a premium online butcher that sells direct to consumers and specialising in heritage and rare breed meat products.

The company was founded in 2011 and is situated in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

FRP Advisory was appointed administrator just over two weeks ago and the majority of its workers, almost 75 people, were laid off.

A notice on the company's website said it had "now been acquired by a Yorkshire consortium and we'll be re-commencing operation's in the coming weeks".

According to one restructuring source, an agreement might be revealed as soon as Monday.

Inverleith, a private equity group that also owns Planet Organic, a retail chain, owned Farmison.

This week is also anticipated to see a rescue arrangement for Planet Organic.

On Sunday evening, neither Mr. Clarke nor FRP could be reached for comment.
