Microsoft has announced another round of layoffs this week, marking the latest in a series of job cuts by the Redmond-based tech giant this year.

The company has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected.

Impacted employees, particularly those in product and program management roles, have taken to LinkedIn to share their experiences.

These cuts span multiple teams and geographies, reflecting a broad scope of the downsizing.

A Microsoft spokesperson said: “Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business.

“We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners.”

This restructuring comes as Microsoft’s fiscal year 2024 ended on June 30.

It is not unusual for the company to implement changes at the beginning of a new fiscal year.

Microsoft laid off about 1,000 employees the previous month, affecting areas such as the Azure cloud unit and HoloLens mixed-reality division.

In January, the company reduced its workforce by nearly 2,000 in its gaming unit

This move followed the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s largest acquisition to date.

These layoffs are part of Microsoft’s strategy to maintain profit margins amid increased capital spending to enhance its cloud infrastructure.

This infrastructure is crucial for training and deploying AI models.

Microsoft’s workforce expanded significantly during the pandemic but has since stabilized.

By the end of 2023, the company employed around 227,000 people globally, a slight decrease from 232,000 the previous year, as reported by GeekWire.
