OpenAI Announces Mini Version Of Its Top-Tier AI Model

OpenAI GPT-4o

OpenAI has rolled out its latest AI model, “GPT-4o mini,” as the company continues to expand its chatbot.

The startup called the new model “the most capable and cost-efficient small model available today.”

It aims to enhance OpenAI’s offerings by incorporating image, video, and audio features.

GPT-4o mini is derived from GPT-4o, OpenAI’s most advanced and swift model, which was introduced in May.

The “o” in GPT-4o stands for omni.

It reflects its enhanced audio, video, and text capabilities and ability to manage 50 languages with improved speed and quality.

OpenAI is supported by Microsoft and valued over $80 billion.

It faces the challenge of maintaining its leadership in the generative AI space.

The startup also manages significant expenses on processors and infrastructure.

Founded in 2015, the company is focused on advancing “multimodality”—integrating diverse types of AI-generated media within a single tool, such as ChatGPT.

Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer, previously said: “The world is multimodal.

“If you think about the way we as humans process the world and engage with the world, we see things, we hear things, we say things — the world is much bigger than text.

“So to us, it always felt incomplete for text and code to be the single modalities, the single interfaces that we could have to how powerful these models are and what they can do.”

From Thursday, July 18, GPT-4o mini will be accessible to free ChatGPT users.

It will also be available to those subscribed to ChatGPT Plus and Team.

It will also become available to ChatGPT Enterprise users the following week, according to OpenAI’s press release.
