Telegram gained 70 million new users during WhatsApp outage on Monday

Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram Messenger, has revealed that the messaging platform registered 70 million new users on Monday during the interruption of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram that lasted several hours. Even before Durov made the announcement through his Telegram channel, users will have noticed the increase in users on Monday, as the service became noticeably slower when it comes to sending messages.

Commenting on the influx of users, Durov wrote: “The daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees jobs from other platforms in one day. I am proud of how our team handled the unprecedented growth because Telegram continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority of our users.”

The platform remained face-to-face on the surface of the water with more traffic than usual. Still, Durov said users in the Americas were hit hardest because they experienced slower speeds than usual. Although not mentioned in the report, at least the messages on the desktop are slower than usual.

The recovery of the Facebook system will leave all new Telegram users behind and unlikely to become active users. Still, you can leave the app installed in case of a future Facebook interruption. Durov welcomed new users on Telegram and asked people to link to the Telegram Tips channel. This shows some of the powerful features that the platform offers. He also posted a link showing how to import WhatsApp chat into Telegram.
