Morrisons Will Use AI Cameras To Improve Staff Efficiency

Morrisons has plans to install thousands of AI cameras across its UK stores by the end of the year.

The announcement comes after trials found boosted availability and increased staff efficiency.

This move, a first among UK retailers, collaborates with Seattle's AI firm Focal Systems to enhance product availability and improve workforce productivity.

This initiative is part of CEO Rami Baitiéh's strategy to address inconsistent stock availability, a challenge he has prioritised since taking the helm at Morrisons.

These cameras monitor stock levels in real-time and guide employees to restock items efficiently, according to The Grocer.

Morrisons has reported a notable improvement in its sales figures, marking the strongest like-for-like sales growth in three years during the first quarter.

Excluding fuel, sales jumped 4.6 percent, a significant increase from a mere 0.1 percent the previous year, with total sales rising 3.9 percent to £3.9 billion.

Rami Baitiéh said: “In January I outlined our plan to reinvigorate, refresh and strengthen Morrisons as we started our next chapter.

“Those plans are now in full swing with the whole business engaged in the three key pillars of work that will be the foundation of the future for Morrisons: commercial excellence, operations optimisation and new value creation.”
