Morrisons Puts 300 Jobs At Risk In Management Shakeup

Morrisons is placing nearly 300 jobs on the line due to a management restructure of its logistics operations.

The changes aim to streamline operations by merging multiple warehouse manager positions at its seven distribution centers into a single operations manager role, as reported by The Grocer.

This reorganization will also lead to the elimination of team manager positions within Morrisons' ambient supply chain.

It’ll reduce the number of roles in its chilled chamber and decrease the number of managers and coordinators in canteen teams.

The company plans to introduce new hourly-paid positions and shift manager roles to compensate.

The restructuring process began with a consultation for 297 roles last week, impacting a range of positions from warehouse managers to people advisors.

Morrisons has outlined that the selection process for affected employees will consider interview outcomes, disciplinary records, and performance evaluations.

The consultation would conclude by April 21, with efforts to offer alternative roles where feasible.

The restructuring won’t impact the Bellshill distribution center, which a third party operates.

The changes also include discontinuing the four-day workweek for most warehouse and logistics support staff

From April 22, employees are expected to transition to working five eight-hour weekly shifts, including Saturdays.

A Morrisons spokesperson told Grocery Gazette: “As part of our ongoing plans to speed up and simplify the business, Morrisons has today announced the start of a consultation programme on some changes to the Operations and People teams across seven logistics sites excluding our Bellshill site.

“The proposed restructuring will lead to a more responsive and simpler structure that will be better able to support our retail operations seven days a week.

“This proposal is likely to affect around 300 roles across the seven affected sites.”
