Elon Musk says X will bring back article headlines

Tesla CEO Elon Musk

Elon Musk has confirmed X will start displaying article headlines for links posted on the platform again, just weeks after removing them.

He wrote on X: "In an upcoming release, will overlay title in the upper portion of the image of a URL card.”

The announcement follows the halting of article headline displays less than two months ago.

Musk had initially suggested eliminating all article headlines in August.

He cited aesthetic improvements, but this time, he assured users the titles would be presented differently, overlaid at the top of the image.

However, he said X would display the URL at the bottom, with no additional vertical pixels utilized.

In response to a user's teasing comment about reversing his decision, Musk said the article headlines would be displayed differently this time.

Musk wrote: "No, the title will be in the image overlaid at the top, with URL overlaid at the bottom, as it is now – no extra vertical pixels used.

He added that he detested "those giant, ugly URL cards" from the platform's previous design.

Elon Musk, who acquired X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022, has implemented several changes.

In April, he discontinued the legacy verification program and introduced the Twitter Blue subscription program.

In September, he hinted at the possibility of a paywall for all users.

He said the paywall would combat the proliferation of bots on the platform.
