EAB Data plans to create 200 new jobs in $6 million Virginia investment

EAB Global

EAB Global, a Washington D.C.-based education data, direct marketing, and recruitment agency for colleges and universities, expects to add 206 positions in the Richmond area over the next five years.

The business intends to invest $6 million in Henrico County, where it will consolidate operations in a 70,000-square-foot old SunTrust Building on West Broad Street.

Chris Marett, president of marketing and enrollment solutions for EAB, said in a statement the “more flexible, hybrid workspace” at the new building “will strengthen our ability to attract and retain the local talent we need to continue helping our partner institutions meet the complex challenges facing the education sector.”

The governor's office in Virginia granted a $741,600 grant from the Commonwealth's Opportunity Fund to help Henrico County with the project.

Glenn Youngkin's office said Virginia won the expansion project over other states where EAB has a presence, including Minnesota and Alabama.

To secure the commitment from EAB, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership collaborated with the Henrico Economic Development Authority and the Greater Richmond Partnership.

The Greater Richmond Partnership's CEO, Jennifer Wakefield, said in a statement that the company's expansion demonstrated that "technology companies like EAB and other office users find Henrico County and Greater Richmond to be the perfect mix of low business costs and high quality of life for their employees."

EAB is not the only D.C.-based corporation planning an expansion in Richmond.

CoStar Group Inc. announced in December that it will invest $460 million in the development of a new extended corporate campus in downtown Richmond, which would eventually accommodate 3,000 of its workers.

The initiative will result in the creation of 2,000 new employees for the firm.

CoStar already has a significant presence in Virginia's capital city, having established its research headquarters there in 2016 and expanded its local workforce to just more than 1,000 people.

The firm claims that the additional jobs will make it Richmond's largest technology business and one of the city's major employers.
