Mark Zuckerberg

The EU has warned Meta about spreading "disinformation" on their social media platforms after the Hamas-Israel conflict.

The union demanded a response within 24 hours to ensure compliance with European law.

EU's industry chief, Thierry Breton, called for "timely, diligent, and objective action" against spreading false information.

Breton emphasizes that it must be "proportionate and effective."

Meta asserted its efforts to monitor and combat disinformation.

However, the European Commission reminded all social media companies that they’re legally required to prevent disseminating harmful content related to Hamas.

The warning to Meta comes on the heels of a similar caution issued to Twitter, now known as X, by the EU.

Thierry Breton noted that "violent and terrorist content" remained on the platform despite prior warnings.

Mr. Musk, the CEO of X, defended his company's actions, including removing newly-established Hamas-affiliated accounts.

He requested a list of alleged violations from the EU, emphasizing the importance of transparency.

The EU's interventions coincide with recent hostilities in the Hamas-Israel conflict, resulting in casualties and unrest.
