Hiring & Firing: Google, Stellantis, and GM conducted layoffs in September

In September, layoffs decreased by nearly half compared to the previous month.

The tech industry shed 4,632 employees in the month alone.

Globally, the sector wiped out 13123 employees in September, with 7,614 in the US, according to a report by LayoffsTracker.

Retail and consumers are the top two tech industries most hit by layoffs this year.

Companies such as Roku, Google, and Snap, which had already let go of employees last year and earlier this year, announced further job cuts.

The UAW strike by autoworkers resulted in General Motors and Stellantis eliminating 2,000 jobs.

UK companies like Wilko, Deloitte, THG, Tata Steel, and Asda also downsized their workforce.

On a positive note, the country created tens of thousands of jobs through major companies like Lidl, BMW, Aldi, EY, Target, and UPS.

Following significant layoffs earlier in the year, US giants Salesforce and Amazon also plan to add 3,300 and 1,000 jobs in the country.

The banking giant Goldman Sachs plans to terminate underperforming employees, with the cuts expected to occur in late October.
