Located in the city of Santa Barbara, California, Cottage Children's Medical Center is recognized today as a regional referral center for the medical needs of infants, toddlers, and children throughout the tri-county area.
The primary focus of the 22 bed, Level III, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (served by a dedicated RN/RCP Transport team) is the provision of critical nursing care to the infant in crisis. The neonatal patient may suffer from a wide variety of medical conditions such as prematurity, respiratory distress, meconium aspiration syndrome, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, sepsis and surgical conditions requiring pre and post-operative care. Care ranges from the acute phase to patient needs or conditions necessitating close observation and interventions.
The NICU utilizes a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team approach to meet the patient's needs throughout their hospital stay and we recognize the importance of parents and family as being an important members of the team.

The Inpatient Registered Nurse provides hospice care and is skilled at assessing pain and other complex symptoms at the end of life. The professional nurse works with the interdisciplinary hospice team to plan and direct services to meet the needs of individuals and families in the General Inpatient setting. Provide nursing services, treatments, diagnostic and preventive procedures requiring the skills of a registered nurse according to in-patient facility protocols.

Attend and participate in interdisciplinary group meetings.

Assists in development, implementation and revision of the interdisciplinary team care plan for each patient and family. Establishes goals, interventions including the patient and family in the process.

Assess patient and report to the attending physician and appropriate interdisciplinary team members, response to treatments and medications as well as changes in the patient’s physical or emotional condition.

Coordinate care with other interdisciplinary team members and with community resources as needed.

Teach, supervise and counsel the patient/family regarding pain and symptom management and psycho-social aspects of care for the terminally ill.

Assess and maintain patient safety.

Teach the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques as appropriate. Provide medication, diet and other instructions as ordered by the physician and recognize and utilize opportunities for health counseling with patients and families/caregivers.

**How you make a difference**
As a Registered Nurse(RN), your primary responsibilityis toprovidepatient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning,implementation,and evaluation.You will work under the supervision of Charge Nurse(s) to provide patient education and activities in accordance with your competencies and education.This role requires excellent communication and critical thinking skills to ensureoptimalpatient outcomes.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Assistin assessing and planning individual treatment programs, consulting with Charge Nurse(s) and otherstaffas necessary.
+ Implement medical plans by administering medications, obtaining diagnostic tests, andassistingwith medical or minor surgical procedures as needed.
+ Count controlled substances and implement clinical and technical aspects of carein accordance withestablished policies, procedures, and protocols.
+ Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting as required by policy and attend mandatory staff meetings and training.
+ Communicate information to nursing staff, physician, health care unit supervisory personnel or otherstaffas necessary.
**Qualifications & Requirements**
Education
+ Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience
+ Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience
Licenses/Certifications
+ Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.

Job Description
Located in the city of Santa Barbara, California, Cottage Children's Medical Center is recognized today as a regional referral center for the medical needs of infants, toddlers, and children throughout the tri-county area.
The primary focus of the 22 bed, Level III, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (served by a dedicated RN/RCP Transport team) is the provision of critical nursing care to the infant in crisis. The neonatal patient may suffer from a wide variety of medical conditions such as prematurity, respiratory distress, meconium aspiration syndrome, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, sepsis and surgical conditions requiring pre and post-operative care. Care ranges from the acute phase to patient needs or conditions necessitating close observation and interventions.
The NICU utilizes a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team approach to meet the patient's needs throughout their hospital stay and we recognize the importance of parents and family as being an important members of the team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
All job qualifications listed indicate the minimum level necessary to perform this job proficiently.
Education:
- Preferred: Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Minimum: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)
- AAP/AHA NRP.
Years of Related Work Experience:
- Minimum: 1 year experience in a Level II or III NICU.
