The Applications Engineer will support the sale of carbon, equipment and service in the North American Municipal and Specialty Markets. This will be accomplished by interfacing with numerous departments in CCC, assisting in presentations to customers and providing technical support to the assigned TSRs in the group. The Applications Engineer III will assist in the technical development of emerging markets/applications in the municipal drinking water, wastewater and specialty application arenas.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)
- Use CCC and 3rd-party computer design programs to predict the performance of activated carbon in liquid and vapor applications
- Set-up and monitor pilot trials in the field to provide design information for future full-scale systems
- Interpret data from lab and field trials for both pilot and full-scale systems to provide technical design and operational recommendations
- Troubleshoot customer problems such as short filter run-times or unexpected contaminant breakthrough
- In coordination with the Technical Director, Market Development, and Sales Director, develop strategies and market-specific approaches to expand existing base business and develop new business opportunities through CCC technology adoption
- Regularly review and evaluate actual results, report/troubleshoot variances; adjust strategy as appropriate
- Acts as technical support and back-up contact related to specific projects for Sales team
- Serves as liaison between the Sales team and the internal support teams including Product and Project Management
- Review bid specifications for clarity, accuracy, and acceptance
- Provide recommendations to improve the technical quality of bid specifications and prevent undue risk to Calgon Carbon
- Participate in industry forums related to emerging markets/applications in the municipal drinking water and wastewater arenas
- Attend technical conferences, and trade shows to gain technical knowledge and represent Calgon Carbon as a leader in the granular activated carbon market
- Prepare and present papers/posters at conferences, trade shows, and virtual opportunities, e.g. webinars
- Develop and present technical presentations/trainings to engineering consultants, clients, regulators, legislators, and others to influence the selection of GAC / IX treatment solutions
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required (Chemical or Environmental Engineering; applicable work experience is also accepted)
- A master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent is preferred
- Applications Engineering experience is preferred
- Water Treatment Engineering Consulting experience is preferred
- Drinking water treatment and activated carbon experience is preferred

The site is a multi-unit manufacturing site with several existing well-established product lines as well as a recently built Low GWP production line aligning with growing market demand. The manufacturing technology group at this facility encompasses over 20 professionals of various specialties ( ChEs, MEs and E E s ) .
This role will serve as a Support Engineer for one or more areas of the Chemours Assets at this facility. The individual will provide overall Process Engineering guidance and support for the Operations, Maintenance, and Technology Teams for their area(s). This role will involve day-to-day troubleshooting in the plant, as well as support for improvement programs in the areas of Safety (PSM), UPTIME, reliability, cost, new capital installations, etc. The operating units are highly hazardous processes (OSHA PSM Covered Processes).
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- To provide engineering and troubleshooting assistance to the site’s unit processes, including all synthesis, refining, storage, and shipping operations to maintain and improve the safety, operability, quality, and cost.
- Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for positive and negative shifts in the process, to identify improvement opportunities. Uptime Software, Aspen Process Explorer software and statistical process control would routinely be used to do this.
- Leads and participates in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations to identify and implement actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Provides support for both cost and capital projects to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit. This includes generating Basic Data, providing economic justification , participation in FEL activities and coordinating installation and commissioning of new/modified facilities .
- Participate in and lead Process Hazards Analyses per the schedule set out for the assigned process.
- Perform tests on the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit.
- Maintain level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations .
- Provide shift/weekend coverage as needed for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds , operator training, or other non-routine needs. Travel requirements are<10>
Required Qualifications and Characteristics:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience.
- Knowledge of basic chemical engineering principles.

What you will be doing:
- Understand engineering project scope, specifications, and design criteria while driving a proactive PSM culture at our site(s).
- Implement all aspects of process safety management, including compliance with applicable regulations, reviewing effectiveness of process hazard assessments, supporting PHAs, LOPA and other process safety modeling activities
- Complete reviews of scenarios and risk engineering to support design and implementation of PSM projects, including loss prevention, top risk, and leading PHA recommendations and other improvements.
- Lead, coordinate and participate in PHAs and willing to get trained to be a PHA facilitator.
- Perform/participate in root cause analysis and implement process changes/control plans to drive continuous improvement.
- Utilize APSM MOC process to manage changes and coordinate APSM PSSR's as required for site assistance.

Basic Requirements:
- Associate degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering or Safety degree with 7+ years of experience in a chemical operating manufacturing or pilot plant facility, OR
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering or Safety degree with 5+ years of experience in a chemical operating manufacturing or pilot plant facility, OR
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering or Safety degree with 3+ years of experience in a chemical operating manufacturing or pilot plant facility, OR
- JD / PhD in Chemical Engineering, Engineering or Safety degree, OR
- 9+ years of experience in a chemical operating manufacturing or pilot plant facility in lieu of a degree

Preferred Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of all OSHA 1910.119 PSM elements and EPA RMP programs

The Lead Process Safety Advisor (Asset Integrity) will provide mentorship to the business in the areas of process / technical safety for asset integrity. This role will work under the direction of the Process Safety Engineering Manager.

Key Accountabilities
- Conducts assurance for bpx process safety with emphasis on process safety event (PSE) reduction through facility and pipeline integrity management.
- Works with Operations and Development engineers and Operations staff to provide assurance for application of Integrity Management (IM), Facility Safety System Integrity and Maintenance, Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) and MOC policies.
- Works with bpx Engineering Authority as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for asset integrity management and pipeline design/operation technical advisor.
- Participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
- Monitors leading and lagging asset integrity key performance indicators.
- Ensures that asset integrity principles are incorporated into Facility Design Manual (FDM) and Risk ID & Mitigation policy.
- Provides safety leadership, counsel and technical support to Development and Operations teams on asset integrity and process safety so that bpx energy meets its safety, environmental, production and cost ambitions.
- Support Development- and Well Intervention-related integrity assurance and audit reviews.
- Responsible for central integrity-related policies within the business and keeping these policies up to date with evolving industry standards.
- Manages NOVA risk register entries for pipelines
- Collaborates with bp Pipelines to manage bpx’s damage prevention program
Crucial Education and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, civil or petroleum engineering
- Relevant industry engineering and operations experience (10+ yrs. experience)
- Proficiency in digital literacy including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Power BI).
- Proficiency presenting regulations, risk management, and risk assessment skills.
- Proficiency in assurance, incident investigation, and documentation techniques.
- Good verbal and written communication skills which include the ability to speak, write and listen in a manner that clarifies issues, promotes closure and delivers information in a clear and concise manner and facilitates good decision-making.
Desirable Criteria & Qualifications
- Highly organized and diligent to detail.
- Operational and technical mechanical and pipeline inspection experience – creating and managing risk-based inspection.
- Familiar with exposure radius calculations from Process Hazard Analysis Software (PHAST) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) for determining potential impact on integrity management activities.
- 1 or more relevant certifications, such as: API 510/570/580/653
- Prior experience managing and improving integrity related programs (Pipeline and/or facility)

We are seeking a motivated engineer to support and continuously improve several key operational programs across water systems, power forecasting, and specialty chemical management. This role is ideal for a high-performing candidate who thrives at the intersection of field operations, data analysis, and program execution. Over time, this role is expected to grow in scope, offering exposure to a wide range of operational priorities, including produced water management and optimization.
Key AccountabilitiesPower Management
- Lead monthly and annual forecasting for upstream electrical power consumption.
- Identify key drivers of power usage and develop a robust budget with clear assumptions & methodology.
- Partner with infrastructure and midstream teams to align forecasts with real-world system behavior.
- Develop tools and dashboards to support transparent planning and cost tracking.
Water Cooling & Facility Support
- Manage the produced water cooling program to ensure midstream pipeline spec compliance.
- Track deployed units, coordinate with field maintenance teams for installations/removals, and maintain a program budget.
- Support ongoing monitoring of water transfer pumps and on-pad liquids handling systems.
Specialty Chemical Program Support
- Assist the chemical program owner in budgeting, forecasting, and field execution of methanol, H₂S scavenger, and emulsion breaker programs.
- Analyze usage trends and performance data to identify optimization opportunities.
- Support vendor coordination and tracking tools that enhance program visibility and performance.
- Assist chemical program manager & facility engineers with developing a strategy for improving tank hygiene (cleanouts, chemical treatments, etc).
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related scientific discipline.
- 3 years of experience in upstream or midstream oil & gas operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage operational programs and collaborate with field and technical teams, driving continuous improvement.
- Strong data analysis and communication skills.
- Experience with cost forecasting, performance tracking, and field support.
Preferred:
- Background in production, facilities, or project engineering.
- Familiarity with chemical treatment programs, field power systems, or water infrastructure.
