**Essential functions of the position:**
+ Perform a variety of tasks that will include having to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods of time, stretch, walk, climb and bend under potentially adverse field conditions and be able to perform visual tasks such as back up spotting and hear and react to back up alarms, per safety protocol
+ Knowledge of fuel injection systems, diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, transmission, and brakes
+ The candidate must be willing to work overtime, an occasional Saturday day-shift and be on call as required
+ Flexibility and ability to take and follow orders in an independent or group setting required

**Qualifications:**
+ Candidate should have a minimum of five years' experience or trade school degree in diesel, trucking, heavy equipment mechanics/technology

Base salary range:
Diesel Mechanic
$33,600-87,500
Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, overtime when applicable, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.

**JOB SUMMARY**
To provide safe, reliable and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs as well as performing expert diagnosis and repair as required to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle downtime and improve total fleet reliability.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment with in planned time tolerances to maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
+ Perform FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light-duty vehicles, and any other company-owned equipment in accordance with all federal, state and local legal and regulatory agencies. (Includes all state-required inspections and frequencies).
+ Perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, refrigeration units (Reefer), lift-gates, light-duty vehicles, and any other company-owned equipment.
+ Perform quality maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, lift-gates, light-duty vehicles, and any company-owned equipment.
+ Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis and repair to refrigeration units (Reefer).
+ Address all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write ups timely, and efficiently.
+ Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications including but not limited to engines, transmissions and clutches, drive-line, differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition system, exhaust systems (including regeneration systems), intake systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems and lift-gate hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
+ Follow procedures including documenting all work performed on work orders.
+ Mentor, teach and share expertise with Fleet Technician I and II to aid in their development to positions of greater responsibility.
+ May perform moderate supervisory roles when Fleet Manager or Fleet Supervisors are not accessible.
+ Proficient in electrical meter testing
+ Knowledge of controls and electric (DC (distribution center) low voltage
+ Electric motor knowledge (DC)
+ Complete electrical repairs and welding projects as needed.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education**
+ High school diploma or GED required
+ Current and valid driver's license (CDL Preferred, Not Required)
**Experience**
+ Medium / Heavy Duty truck technical training
+ 2-year school and 4 years of experience OR
+ 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair
**Certifications, Licenses and/or Registrations**
+ Annual Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Brake Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks

Mechanic will be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the Fleet road equipment including tractor, trailer, thermo-king, converter dolly and maintenance vehicles. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Mechanics will also be responsible for the documentation, completion, and to keep current the maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily. The position will be required to perform road rescue as needed.
**This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract.** **This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.**
Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment (i.e., tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.).
Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
Complete documentation of all repair orders, PM list and parts accountability.
Handle road service calls; perform road rescue/transport equipment as needed.
Keep track of assigned repairs by logging in and out of the Shop Fax system.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines.
Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping.
Backup to other maintenance shop personnel.
Willingness and capacity to assume increased responsibility and certifications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must have (3) years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy duty commercial diesel mechanic or reefer mechanic or a combination of both; or (2) years verifiable hands-on experience with either Diesel Mechanic Certification or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification or both.
Diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs.
Successfully demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Prior experience in administering appropriate PM program.
Must furnish own personal hand tools.
CDL A and DOT certified preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations as pertaining to the shop and fleet.
Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
Excellent communication skills; able to communicate with co-workers and drivers with demonstrated teamwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
Computer and software experience.
