Essential Job Summary::

Shift: Monday - Friday 4:00 PM – 1:30 AM / Saturday (as needed) 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Our Diesel Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, including diesel heavy trucks and engines. Performs preventive maintenance inspection (PMI); troubleshoots, repairs, and rebuilds major components on vehicles and equipment. Ensures accurate diagnosis and effective repair and/or replacement of components. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.  
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.   
  • Assists in the repair and adjustment of equipment.   
  • Washes vehicles and equipment.   
  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles.   
  • Assists with service calls for breakdowns.   
  • Perform other maintenance related work as required.  
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.  
Requirements and Qualifications::
  • 3-5+ years’ experience as class A or B mechanic 
  • Computer diagnostic experience is required 
  • Prior experience from waste management industry or heavy equipment/yellow iron dealership experience is a plus 
  • Trade school or similar training is a plus 
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices

Interstate Waste Services is looking for a Full- Time experienced diesel mechanic. MUST have at least 1 to 2 years heavy truck diesel mechanic experience.
FULL Time 2nd Shift - Monday thru Friday 11AM to 8PM with 1 or 2 Saturday's a month as needed. Pay is commensurate with experience. Pay range is $27 to $5 an hour.

**Essential Job Summary:**
Knowledge and ability to perform Preventative Maintenance services with general knowledge related to heavy duty and light duty trucks. This may include gasoline, diesel and CNG Systems.
**Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.**
+ Aid/assist drivers in completion of the daily Post trip and vehicle safety inspection process
+ Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment during Safety Lane and PM's.
+ Complete lubrication and repair of lubrication points on vehicles as assigned on the daily schedule
+ Ability to learn and utilize brake inspection procedures and complete documentation daily
+ Perform basic repairs and maintenance on Heavy Duty Equipment, including but not limited to Rear Load, Front Load, Roll Off, Grapple, Port-a-let, and other service type trucks including chassis and body.
+ Communication with A & B technicians /drivers as to issues with vehicles and discusses preventative techniques that may minimize future repairs.
+ Completes all required paperwork / computer data entry, including documenting parts usage and time in and out on repair orders, in a timely and concise manner.
+ Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards which may include sweeping, organizing and maintaining the shop and grounds areas.
+ Conducts repairs utilizing Factory Service Manuals.
+ Maintain high standard of Ethics and Dependability.
+ Follows all safety policies and procedures.
**Requirements and Qualifications:**
+ Ability to assist drivers with Pre/Post trip process
+ Ability to identify visible repairs required on vehicles: lights, mirrors, leaks, body damage etc.
+ Ability to assist/complete fluid top up on vehicles including oil, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluid, DEF fluid
+ Knowledge of tire inspections and air pressure adjustments
+ Ability to support technicians in repair of lights, wipers, mirrors.
+ Ability to understand and use lubrication charts for waste trucks
+ Ability to lubricate components on trucks as scheduled (training provided)
+ Ability to assist technicians in the repair of basic engine, transmission, brake, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, body components and systems related to Heavy Duty and Light Duty Trucks.
+ Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles.
+ Basic computer skills as required.
