Job Summary
As a General Manager with ESS Support Services Worldwide, you will be responsible for maintaining the account in accordance with the approved budget while meeting client expectations. You will be expected to build and maintain excellent relationships with employees, guests, the client, and other departments within the operation. Additionally, you will be responsible for promoting the professional growth and development of the entire team. You will oversee the Alaska Railroad Food Service Project and manage all physical and financial aspects of the operation. This includes handling budgeting, financial overview, client relationships, overseeing the training program for culinary and service staff, and employee relations. During the summer season, you will be required to work 60 to 70 hours per week, depending on business demand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities
+ Directly supervises 6+ supervisory and non-supervisory staff and is responsible for overseeing up to 75 employees in food and facility services.
+ Directly manage staff in line with organizational policies and legal requirements, including hiring, training, and performance appraisal.
+ Address employee complaints and resolve conflicts.
Human Resource Functions
+ Approve hiring for all positions, set expectations for team roles, and develop service and culinary standards.
+ Ensure compliance with HR paperwork and provide training for assistant managers and supervisors.
Financial Resource Functions
+ Oversee all financial aspects of the project, ensuring timely payroll and accurate financial reporting.
+ Collaborate with senior accounting staff on invoicing and budget development and ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines.
Food and Beverage Functions
+ Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu development and maintain food purchase agreements with vendors.
+ Ensure food and beverage costs align with the budget.
Safety Resource Functions
+ Ensure compliance with ESS safety policies and work with the HSE Manager on accident reporting.
+ Maintain a zero-incident record.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent professional experience
+ Eight to ten years upscale food service experience, including four to five years’ experience at the management level
+ Experience in personnel management including hiring, supervision, evaluation and succession planning
+ Proven track record to achieve company goals in compliance with company/client policies and procedures
+ Excellent leadership and organizational skills, and must possess attention to detail
+ Supervisory, scheduling, training and coaching skills
+ Effective problem solving and conflict management skills
+ Experience in food purchasing, food costs and inventory control
+ Ability to create budgets, flash reports, financial targets and forecasts
+ Must be knowledgeable on HACCP controls along with proper storage and use of food
+ Exceptional business etiquette and client relations
+ Manages time effectively and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines
+ Strong catering experience required
+ Conformity to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior

The Food Service Supervisor is located at Mount Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska. This is a high-volume dining facility located on a high school campus. The Food Service Supervisor is a unique and exciting opportunity for an energetic and motivated supervisor who is constantly seeking excellence in service standards. This key leadership position is directly responsible for the successful operation of food service activities including retail, quality improvement, sanitation and infection control.
The Food Service Supervisor ensures client customer service satisfaction with efficient cost-effective management, meeting and exceeding stated expectations. They will also provide strong leadership to a team whose focus is exceptional service and quality.
**Responsibilities**
+ Provides team leadership by ensuring cohesiveness at the unit and with the client.
+ Directs daily food service operations in order to provide quality products operations including menu evaluation, planning, purchasing, inventory, receiving, food preparation and storage.
+ Maintains and implements sanitary and food safety conditions and training to adhere to auditing procedures and statutory regulations.

**Qualifications**

+ Culinary associate's degree or a degree in a related field of study preferred.
+ Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.
+ At least one (1) year of experience in a key leadership role overseeing employees.
+ A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
+ Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.

**Responsibilities**
+ Accurately inputs sales and transactions into the POS system.
+ Handles cash, credit/debit payments, and meal account balances.
+ Counts and reconciles cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to prepare deposits.
+ Assists students, staff, and visitors with general inquiries and food/beverage selections.
+ Makes recommendations based on menu items and availability.
