As an Engineer in the R&D department, you will be an integral part of a cross-functional team focused on the design, development, and testing of medical devices. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals eager to grow their engineering skills in a collaborative and mission-driven environment. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project leaders, contributing to product development from concept through commercialization. In addition to new product development, this role also supports Sustaining Engineering initiatives to ensure the continued performance, compliance, and improvement of existing medical devices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the design and development of medical devices in accordance with BD's product development process and regulatory requirements.

• Assist in creating and executing test protocols, analyzing data, and documenting results.

• Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and risk assessments.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Marketing.

• Develop CAD models, engineering drawings, and prototypes using tools such as SolidWorks.

• Maintain accurate and organized documentation in compliance with design control procedures.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support root cause investigations.

• Collaborate on Sustaining Engineering activities, including product updates, compliance reviews, and support for manufacturing and field issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.

• 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience (internships/co-ops included).

• Familiarity with engineering design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

• Basic understanding of FDA regulations and ISO standards for medical devices is a plus.

• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Eagerness to learn, grow, and contribute in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Internship or co-op experience in a regulated industry (medical device, pharma, etc.).

• Exposure to design controls, risk management, and verification/validation activities.

• Experience with lab equipment and testing methodologies.

• Facilitation of simulation-based experiences (SBE) and labs to include equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, set-up and clean-up

Job Description:

• This position performs various quality engineering functions and associated support tasks in developing knowledge and experience in the areas of Quality Assurance/Document Control/Design Control.
• This includes working to support Design Control projects as well as other duties in support of the Quality System, Design Control System, Document Control, Manufacturing, and the R&D/Product Development departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Represents the Corporation, Division and Quality Department in a professional manner.
• Participates on Project Team as Quality Representative. Ensures that principles of Design Control are applied to Product and Process Changes and New Product Development.
• Provides support for Project Teams or Quality Department as required such as generating RFS, ECR, PQR, etc.
• Creates and Reviews the following: Quality System Documents, Product Documents, Test Methods, documents required for Design History File.
• Creates/reviews Protocols, Process and Product Validations, Stability Protocols.
• Conducts Risk Assessments such as FMEA, FMECA or FTA.
• Provides work direction as required.
• Performs Internal or Supplier Quality System Audits.
• Ensures compliance to Department and Division procedures.
• Participates and has membership in trade and/or professional organizations to ensure that state-of-the-art industry standards are communicated into the division in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner.
• Interfaces with manufacturing facility or other Division Facilities.
• Travels as required by the above duties and responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• American Society of Quality (ASQ) certification (CQE, CQA, CQM, etc.) preferred.
• Entry level position, experience with FDA regulated industry including experience with product development programs preferred.
