As a Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:

  • Providing Patient Care: Under the direction of the Clinician, providing care to patients by assisting the provider to gather information that is relative to the patient's visit and condition.
  • Effective Communication: Communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
  • Team Collaboration: Working with cross functional teams to collaborate on patient care. Attention to detail and follow-through are key components in helping to provide the care that is needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program or one year of Medical Assistant Experience or has a current RN/LPN license
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
  • Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
  • Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
  • Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.

Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a paraprofessional who is specifically trained to provide skilled personal care and activities of daily living (ADL's) to patients in their place of residence under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN). In this role, you will report to the Registered Nurse (RN). Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides services as ordered in the plan of care/aide care plan and that the aide is permitted to perform under state law
  • Performs/assists with direct patient/client personal care, household chores, meals, and other assigned/delegated tasks
  • Performs/assists with simple procedures as an extension of the therapy or nursing services as assigned/delegated
  • Assists in ambulation or exercises as assigned/delegated
  • Assists with medications that are ordinarily self-administered as assigned per state regulation
  • Maintains excellent infection control practices at all times especially handwashing and appropriate precautions as directed by the RN
  • Understands and adheres to established Agency policies and procedures
  • Completes appropriate visit records in a timely manner as per Agency policy
  • Reports changes in the patient's condition timely as well as other and needs to the RN
  • Performs household services essential to health care in the home as assigned
  • Attends staff meetings and patient care conferences as scheduled
  • Follows Agency policy for cleaning equipment between patient uses
  • Carries out, reports and documents care given in an effective, timely manner
  • Completes all work assigned by the RN; reports incomplete assignments to the RN
  • Does not accept assignments for a patient for which he/she has not received appropriate training
  • When applicable under state law, follows and performs RN delegation tasks as assigned
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguards for all patient related information
  • Reports any complaint, infection, variance, accident, or unusual occurrence to the RN
  • Participates in QAPI activities as requested/assigned

Position Overview

Our Certified Nursing Assistant/Aide is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under supervision of Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses. Assists Nurses with patient care and patients with ADL's commensurate with their education and demonstrated competencies.

Essential Duties

Under the supervision of an LPN, RN, PA, ARNP, or MD, assists in the assessment of vital signs, transferring, and ambulating of patients

Consults with and is responsible to RNs and other staff as appropriate

Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures. Intervenes with proper technique, procedures, and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients

Responsible for charting vital signs, intake, and output on appropriate flow sheets and reports any changes of patient status to appropriate disciplines

Responsible for ordering and maintaining supply levels for all clinics; stocks ER supplies

Responsible for administering medications

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements

Current certification as a Nurse Aide in working state from an accredited CNA course

One (1) or more years of clinical experience preferred

Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. for this position

Must have current CPR/BLS certification

Willing to assist coworkers in the job duties and work overtime if required; may act as a resource to other coworkers

Maintains confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA requirements Security Requirements

Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test (as applicable)

Must obtain and maintain security clearance with the client/facility as a requisite for initial and/or continued employment

Physical/Mental Requirements

This position routinely requires (but is not limited to) the following:

Ability to both remain stationary and move/traverse throughout the facility, including up and down flights of stairs

Ability to position oneself in different spaces

Ability to convey and discern information in a conversation, frequently communicate with patients; must be able to exchange accurate information.

Ability to identify and detect objects and assess situations from a variety of distances

Ability to stay calm in stressful and demanding situations

Work Environment

Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates including exposure to blood borne pathogens. Employee is expected to work in accordance with all security rules and regulations to minimize the risk of danger and/or harm to themselves or other employees.

Employee must comply with all current and future State, Federal, and Local laws and regulations, court orders, Administrative Directives and standards and policies and procedures of the site where assigned, including those of professional organizations such as ACA, NCCHC, etc. Employee must treat every other member of the CorrHealth team, all correctional personnel, all inmates and third parties in the facility with the proper dignity and respect. Actions or communications that are inappropriate or degrading will not be tolerated.

Their duties include helping patients bathe and maintain proper hygiene, feeding patients or ensuring they take their medication and assessing their patients' vital signs to notify staff of any changes.
