Collaborates, communicates and coordinates with other health care team members in planning and implementing care. Assesses the needs of designated patients requiring hospitalization; initiates nursing admission database and discharge planning in collaboration with inpatient staff and physician. Cooperates and communicates effectively with other team members in order to accomplish the workload.
  • Communicates recognition of the patients and family/significant others psychosocial, cultural and emotional needs in each nurse-patient interaction. Orients patients and family/significant others to the role of the professional nurse and other health care team members, the nursing services available, and the means of access to those services. Reinforces orientation to the Consumer Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. Identifies the patients educational needs as part of the nursing assessment. The Registered Nurse is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

This position is a 0.5 FTE Weekend position. Shifts are Saturday and Sunday 7:45 am to 6:15 pm. First two weeks of employment require the ability to work Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm to accommodate onboarding. Additional department training will be required up to an additional 6 weeks. 

Responsibilities
  • Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes
  • Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment
  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management
  • Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care
  • Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc.
  • Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care
  • Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice

In addition to primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurses (RN), the Infusion RN will have the following key responsibilities:

Nursing Care and Assessment  

  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects
  • Perform nursing assessment, review relevant lab results, assess pain and other symptoms 
  • Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products

Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs   

  • Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and uses correct precautions when handling them
  • Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products

Patient and Family Education  

  • Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan
  • Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s)
  • Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post-infusion therapy

Communication and Teamwork  

  • Communicate or escalate patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed
  • Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care
  • Request consultation from social work, dietitian, spiritual care, and or any other supportive care teams when patient's situation indicates

Professional Development and Clinic Engagement  

  • Participation in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or NLC multistate license.
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (required within 3 months of hire)
  • Additional certification may be required dependent upon department. 
  • Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
  • Ability to develop clinical judgment.
  • Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently

The hourly pay range for this position is from $45.35 to $84.80 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.

Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

International Health and Medical Services is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse Manager to oversee the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to patients while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role includes managing daily operations, addressing clinical issues, and fostering a collaborative environment to promote optimal patient care and staff development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health staff for assigned areas on a 24-hour basis.
  • Use appropriate consultation with experts of each discipline he/she supervises to ensure that practice and performance issues are addressed and resolved.
  • Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
  • Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.
  • Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
  • Function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
  • Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based programs and processes.
  • Perform initial patient triage and ongoing assessment and treatment of acute/urgent presenting symptoms in collaboration with the provider.
  • Use critical thinking and excellent communication skills to care for patients.
  • Knowledgeable of an array of presenting symptoms to quickly triage with appropriate use of nursing protocols in providing evidence-based care.
  • Take vital signs, collects specimens for lab testing, administers medications, administers IV fluid, performs 12-lead EKG as needed.
  • Performs point-of-care testing.
  • Accurately documents care given.
  • Strictly follows all infection control guidelines to provide safe patient care.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Minimum of six years of professional nursing experience is required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Employees shall have at least one year of general experience that demonstrates the following:
    • The ability to greet and deal tactfully with the public.
    • Capability of understanding and applying written and verbal orders, rules, and regulations. All personnel shall be literate and be able to interpret printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and must be able to compose reports.
    • Good judgment, courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through knowledge of his/her position responsibilities.
    • Ability to maintain poise and self-control during situations that involve mental stress, such as fires, explosions, civil disturbances, and building evacuations.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • This position is considered hazardous duty.
  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.
Other Special Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
  • Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the U.S. for permanent residence.
  • Have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.


Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant's background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.

OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care through assessment, planning for and delegating care based on patient needs, executing therapeutic physician or nurse-initiated interventions, and evaluating the patient's response to care and progress towards outcomes. Whenever possible, the family or those significant to the family are considered as part of the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation efforts of the RN. When care is not provided directly by the RN, the RN assigns/delegates care to other qualified members of the health care team. The RN coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed. Through documentation and verbal communication, essential information is shared with health care team members. Unit-based activities which contribute to a positive work and professional environment are performed.

Clinical Practice

  • Accurately triages patients using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI).
  • Initiates and documents accurate and ongoing assessment and re-assessment of physical, psychologic, and social problems of patients within the emergency care setting.
  • Collects key information from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems.
  • Performs therapeutic nursing interventions consistent with nursing division policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices.
  • Follows BLS, ACLS, and TNCC protocols.
  • Is knowledgeable in arrhythmia detection and treatment.
  • Initiates pain management measures according to policies, protocols, and physician orders.
  • Is knowledgeable in crisis intervention.
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the emergency patient based on the patient's assessment, identified problems, and cultural diversity.
  • Formulates and implements a plan of care for the emergency patient based on assessment, patient problems, and expected outcomes.
  • Evaluates and modifies the plan of care based on observable patient responses and attainment of expected outcomes.
  • Adheres to established standards of emergency nursing practice, including behaviors that characterize professional status.
  • Provides care based on philosophical and ethical concepts. These concepts include reverence for life; respect for the inherent dignity, worth, autonomy, and individuality of each human being; and acknowledging the beliefs of other people.
  • Ensures open and timely communication with emergency patients, significant others, and other health care providers through professional collaboration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods of time over the course of up to a 16 hour shift. May occasionally encounter verbally abusive or combative customers. Must be able to lift approximately 30 pounds and participate in team lift activities utilizing safe patient handling techniques and safe body mechanics. Must be able to make decisions under pressure. Must be able to work under emotionally stressful conditions.
