About the Role: Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Business Partner is a Generalist professional who provides HR services to our nonprofit and social enterprise clients in areas such as recruitment, onboarding, staff training, performance management, compliance, employee relations, benefits administration, and other high-touch HR projects.

This hybrid role involves a combination of remote work, onsite visits to client offices, and time at our own office. To ensure seamless support, we require candidates to be located in San Diego, CA, with the ability to commute within San Diego County and access reliable transportation.

What You Will Bring:
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including 3-5 years in an HR Generalist role, and at least 2 years in an HR Director-level position or equivalent.
  • A valid PHR, PHR-CA, SHRM-CP certification, or equivalent is required; candidates without certification must obtain it within six months of hire.
  • Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal employment regulations, laws, and best practices, with specific expertise in California employment laws and regulations.

  • Nonprofit experience is strongly preferred.

What Youll Do:
  • Collaborate with the organization and team to monitor and achieve short- and long-term goals aligned with service proposals and client-specific needs.
  • Assist clients in ensuring full compliance with federal and state regulations and laws.
  • Provide support for full-cycle recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes as needed.
  • Establish and maintain systems and processes for accurate personnel record-keeping and documentation.
  • Develop and refine job descriptions, performance review processes, and Employee Handbooks.
  • Deliver training and development programs for client employees, as necessary.
  • Administer employee benefits, including claims resolution, reporting changes, communicating benefit information, and supporting open enrollment.
  • Implement and manage performance management processes, including coaching and counseling.
  • Conduct HR risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage and/or implement HRIS systems and other automation/technology solutions.
  • Oversee and resolve employee relations matters to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Actively engage in administrative staff meetings and participate in relevant seminars and other professional gatherings.

Detailed Job Description/Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Administer the entire talent acquisition process, which includes job postings, sourcing, interviewing, and offer negotiations.
  • Manage a streamlined and engaging onboarding process to ensure new hires feel welcomed, informed, and set up for success.
  • Work with external recruiting firms to support hiring needs, including selecting partners and negotiating contracts as approved by leadership.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Manage and continuously improve HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
  • Track and manage PTO, leaves of absence, and attendance-related policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain updated employee records.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees to address questions, resolve issues, and mediate conflicts.
  • Guide and support managers in handling employee relations, performance issues, and professional development.
  • Handle employee investigations, discipline, and terminations.
  • Support leadership with organizational planning, role clarity, and team structure.
  • Develop employee training and development programs.
  • Champion a positive, values-driven workplace culture that supports team engagement, belonging, and performance.

HR Strategy & Reporting

  • Identify opportunities to improve HR systems and tools.
  • Provide regular reporting and insights on HR metrics (headcount, turnover, engagement, etc.).
  • Stay updated on HR best practices and trends to evolve the people strategy continuously.

Required Competencies/Skills:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience; at least 2 years in a standalone or HR leadership role.
  • Strong working knowledge of a broad range of HR laws and best practices.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, creative, or growth-oriented environment is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with HRIS tools, applicant tracking systems, and benefits platforms.
  • Excellent command of English grammar and spelling
  • Work well under pressure
  • Ability to think ahead independently and challenge oneself to learn and grow
  • Must lead by example and foster a supportive environment for the agency
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, Apple Keynote
  • Handle and safeguard confidential and proprietary information with great sensitivity
  • Able and willing to work during non-business hours as needed or required to fulfill job requirements
  • Must be based in Nashville, TN

Education Required:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (HR certification is a plus).

Seeking an HR Generalist responsible for approximately 200 employees. You will conduct new-hire orientation, onboarding, policy implementation, investigations and employee relations for 5 locations. Travel can be up to 20%.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the HR department for various branches within their District and carries out administrative work involving the human resources functions and maintains related records.
  • Assesses company policies, programs and procedures and informs employee and management on the interpretation of them.
  • May have lead or professional responsibilities over lower-level support and clerical personnel.
  • With Corporate Talent Acquisition Department facilitates the timely hiring of qualified job. applicants for open positions; collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required for the openings.
  • Maintains employee records ensuring completion and accuracy of detail such as employee information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure and other key details.
  • Supervises the training of new hires for orientation and may conduct new hire orientation.
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the Ceridian DayForce systems.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, or related field and/or
  • 3-5 years of HR related experience and proven HR applied proficiency.
