The Staff Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for supervising and participating in the application of a variety of speech and cognitive therapeutic techniques for the rehabilitation of patients. Work is full time during weekdays. Work is performed at the clinic with some work occasionally at the residential site or in the community. Work can either be full time during weekdays, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm, Part Time, PRN or seasonal employment. Actively interviewing Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and or RPE licenses.

Job Tasks:

Examines and evaluates patients, identifies communication/cognitive problems, including the type of problems such as cognition, dysarthria, apraxia, language, dysfluency, dysphagia, etc., the causal and/or maintaining factors, and the severity of the problems.
Develops, updates, and implements individualized patient treatment plans including long and short- term goals. Treatment activities may include, but are not limited to, the Cognition Module, Attention Module, Auditory Rehabilitation Module, Echoic Store, Iconic Store, orientation, passive breathing, thermal stimulation, etc.
Performs reporting procedures.
Consults with patients, families and therapists from various clinic disciplines to instruct, advise or inform them of procedures and tests.

Requirements:

Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders required.
Current or eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association required.
Current licensure or eligible to practice professional Speech Pathology in California.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including skill sets, experience, education and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It’s not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are arrived at each unique case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary is $5,000 - 115,000/year.

REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Communicatively/Severely Handicapped

JOB GOAL: Under direction of program manager, communicatively/severely handicapped, provides diagnostic, remedial, and consultative services for children with communicative disorders Performs as support staff member in school to determine specific needs of children who display speech, language and hearing difficulties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Effectively screens pupils for communicative disorders and selects cases according to appropriate criteria as determined by speech and language specialist and by state and federal guidelines
  2. Employs assessment procedures, techniques and standard tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis and conveys pertinent information to appropriate personnel, including referrals for medical or other professional attention
  3. Establishes individual education plan for students admitted to program and reviews IEPs at least annually
  4. Implements IEP for pupils admitted to program; provides therapy for individuals and/or groups
  5. Maintains contact and coordinates efforts to serve related professionals
  6. Utilizes results of current resources to improve program
  7. Carries out appropriate follow-up procedures for pupils dismissed from speech and language program
  8. Participates in conferences and meetings
  9. Pursues professional growth through education workshops and coursework
  10. Assumes responsibility for implementation of state and federal regulations as related to speech and language services

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICE:
  1. Participates in formation of policies, standards and objectives of District speech and language specialist
  2. Participates in preparation of District guides, forms and procedures
  3. Acquaints administrators and other school personnel with speech, language and hearing problems, and resources in community
  4. Participates in curriculum planning and evaluations
  5. Participates in preparation of master calendar for speech and language problems
  6. Serves as member of special education individual education program team as required
  7. Assesses and makes necessary referrals for preschool children with communicative disorders
  8. Prepares required District attendance records and state reports
  9. Provides information and assistance to parents

SALARY: $71,150 - $168,037 annually - 185 Days (maximum salary includes educational, certificate, and bilingual authorization stipends)

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
