The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operating room, managing surgical equipment, and collaborating with the surgical team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. The OR RN collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and adheres to the highest standards of patient safety, infection control, and professional ethics in a dynamic surgical environment.
Essential Work Functions:- Prepare the operating room by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functional for each surgical procedure
- Assists in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and safety according to procedural requirements
- Maintains a sterile field throughout surgical procedures and adhering to infection control protocols and sterile technique
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly to maintain efficient workflow
- Monitors patient's condition during surgery, documenting significant changes and notifying the surgeon of any significant changes
- Handles surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring their proper use, sterilization, and disposal according to facility protocols
- Manage specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to facility protocols, ensuring accurate diagnostic results
- Documents all aspects of patient care in the perioperative setting accurately and thoroughly
- Participate in patient handoff communication during pre- and post-operative phases ensuring continuity of care
- Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases, adhering to infection control and turnover protocols
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and standards
- Follow hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is required
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending

- Participates in the development and implementation of service plans and supervises, in conjunction with the physicians, the medical components of the plan
- Reviews documents and revises all nursing/nursing related care plans on a regular basis
- Ensures medical records and reports are current and complete in accordance with regulatory and corporate standards, including medication administration records and physician’s orders
- Maintains contact with primary care physicians and specialists, and, when directed, attends doctor visits with mentor and/or individual receiving services.
- Promotes health and wellness for individuals and ensures nursing actions and steps are put in place for prevention
- Administers medications according to established guidelines

- Oversees the management of high-risk medical conditions and private duty nursing services

- Physician ordered treatments for:
- Nutrition via a feeding tube
- Tracheostomy care
- Suctioning — nasal, oral and/or endotracheal
- Ventilation care
- Seizure assessment and treatment
Requirements for Registered Nurses (RNs)
- Current, active Florida RN license
- Current BLS CPR card (obtained in-person, not online)
- G-tube, trach, vent experience, or willing to train
- TB Skin Test (PPD) or TB Blood Test (QF)
- Alzheimer's training - 2 Hour DOEA Approved Course (provided at no cost if needed)
- 1- Hour DOEA Alzheimer's Video (provided free of cost on DOEA website)
